The biggest problem you can expect is for guys to hit on you thinking you prefer the company of men!

So? They're just bad value too. R17k gets you nothing special with Apple, whereas that money will buy a seriously kickass PC.

I dont agree that are bad value. I have no regrets spending £1400 on my macbook a few years back. Never had a laptop last as long. Its also the best laptop for running windows. Smoothest install ever :) Try running OS X and Windows on non-Apple machine.

And OS X is superior to Windows. Has the robustness of unix/linux together with a great desktop :) I do more Visual Studio work on my macbook than i do on my windows pc.

I disagree strongly. OS X literally gives me a headache after prolonged exposure, and if it weren't needed for development I wouldn't touch it. I'll take Linux any day over it. I don't know what Windows setup you last had, but Windows 8 on decent hardware with an SSD is very fast. Visual Studio 2013 and Office 365 are as fast as I could hope for.

Maybe it's a bit like Android - if you can't or don't know how to customise the experience to your liking then it can leave much to be desired.

I also use my PC for gaming, which rules out Mac all by itself.

haha. Nothing wrong with the Windows PC.

I hate Linux. Probably because I use Unix so much. I removed linux from a pc and put Solaris on it. zfs rocks. Very solid.

When I bought my macbook, I was a bit apprehensive about it. I only bought it because had to port some Android stuff to iOS and maintain it. Now I barely switch my windows pc on, because I can do all the development on the macbook. Which is a pity, because its fast. Shedloads of ram. Bit of a paperweight now. I only ever turned it on to play WOW, but now I cant be bothered. Too busy.

I also think I made a serious mistake in getting Windows 8. Awful interface. Can never find anything. Use Windows 7 Pro at work. Yes there are solutions, but I cant be arsed now. More comfortable with the OS X interface now.

Maybe Windows 10... We'll see :)

or depending on my bonus this month, I might get myself a iMac and convert my windows desktop into another Solaris box. 16gig ram is going to waste atm :)

Don't attempt to use iPhone, iPad or iPod as backup for music. Get used to re-uploading your music a lot and not copying music from friends. Or movies or tv shows for the most part. And almost no hardware will work for OS X that is not made by Apple.

What are you on about? I've got printers, scanners, external drives of every kind, dongles, keyboards, mouses, cameras, displays, and more that would disagree.

I do a lot of device interaction using proprietary libraries, and you will not find support for them. In fact nothing will work without Visual Studio. Sure you can plug in your dongle, but not if it's NTFS and what's the point then? Your keyboard has no function key, your mouse can't scroll properly, your printer cannot be setup to print according to your specifications, and no friend, your camera's software will simply not work. What planet are you from?

No function key?

Okay then.

I can set up my printer any which way I please, and my cameras work just fine. As for a mouse not scrolling "properly" perhaps you'd care to explain that one.

We priced name brand laptops versus Macbooks. The latter were not that much more. Same applies to the integrated models like the iMac.

So you translate some proprietary work you do into "almost no hardware will work for OS X that is not made by Apple"?

NTFS works pretty easily on OS X.

If you are seriously claiming there is no function key I'd recommend a visit to an eye doctor or perhaps a white cane.

I can only assume that by cannot scroll properly you mean it does so too smoothly and efficiently. And there's all those gestures.

I'll be sure to tell my camera's software that it can't possibly be working on OS X. Poor thing thinks it works. Had the camera fooled too.

I've copied files to my iPhone. I never need to re-upload music to the same phone, unless I've wiped it, and if I get another phone I just click a button to put the same selection onto it. If another family member wants a different music selection they pick it and iTunes remembers, making it easy to sync multiple devices to their unique selection of music and apps.

Biggest problem owning an Apple? A ton of people calling you a fan-boy (but secretly being jealous). The eco-system on Apple is really open - once you install Homebrew you have the best of both worlds (solid hardware and OS and the flexibility of Linux-addons).

Go with Office:Mac - I have never been able to use Pages/Numbers for anything but very, very basic tasks (I know there are people out there which put my Excel skills to shame via Pages).

Uhm...maybe you should use Numbers for spreadsheets instead of Pages...that will go along way to helping you out. :)

But yes it's not really for power users (which very few people actually are) but considering it's free with every machine now I would recommend any user try it for a month or so before shelling out for Office by default.

About the only thing truly lacking in Numbers are pivot tables, which very few people actually need.

Wow, people have a lot of misinformation about Macs!

Yup. Mostly due to a lack of proper exposure or an unwillingness to learn.

It's much easier to bash something you don't understand, rather than learning to understand it.

This Windows 7 HP piece of **** that has been forced on me is not much fun at all. Maybe if it was Windows 8.1 it would have been a little better. Win7 feels ancient now.

Biggest problem on Windows 8.1 and they surpass being irritating and cause HUGE problems for you.

@ Do a mirror backup and need to refresh/ reset your PC? You will "painfully" discover that when do do a backup Window appends all your file names with a date and time stamp. For example: Letter to mother 2015 02 20 11:45 - Letter to partner 2015 01 20 13:22 - Business document 2014 06 02 08:02 etc. You will have to manually rename then!!

@ Does you PC have 2 drives and you do a backup? It will fk up your files and folders by backing up C: drive files on your D: drive and D: drive files on your C: drive. This is done randomly. You wont know which folder or files are the latest version.
@ Want to copy paste any type of file to another folder? Loads of times it will tell you, "File cannot be moved as it is open in another folder".

The above problems are plastered all over the internet and, as usual, Microsoft print the pages and wipe their asses with it. These are HUGE problems.

4 things. 1. I started the thread 2. Read all of it. People are making comments on Windows and Apple. 3. I'm trying to find out what problems I might have with Apple compared to Windows. 4. Bevrore posting get the context of the thread.
