The current minimum wage in South Africa is R27.58.

What do you think the minimum wage should be in South Africa? Or should there not be a minimum wage at all?

We pay R350 per day, 2 days a week. I think it is time to increase to R370 now. Hovering around R45 per hour. She gets 3-4 weeks of paid holiday per year. Not much but that is what we can do right now.

I'd love to see some actual data though. Where industries who are paying minimum wage, give feedback on how they will be affected, if its increased by like R1.

You can't really say if its worth changing or not without that info.

the subtext of the question is problematic

labour is not a commodity that can be sold like other commodities

also, the person is having to make a choice between starving or accepting minimum wage, thats pretty much duress

Also also, I'm sorry, but I can't disclose that information.

First apply and when the 8th interview comes around will I be able to give you, the minimum wage I can give.

Sweep South is cheaper and then you don't need to worry about paid leave or adoption.

8 hours a day?
6 days a week?
Then survival rate seems to need about R40 - R45. Let's make it R45 - R50 to cover the next few years.

Minimum wage is a developed country concept. It doesn't work where the majority make use of unskilled labour.

Also to counter here, it forces an employer to make the choice between employing 1 more person or letting someone starve. I'd rather have less unemployment.

I see what you did there.

so much wrong here I'm not even going to bother

R1 a month. In fact there should not be a minimum wage at all. Let people decide what they are willing to work for. If the company does not pay enough, move on and look for another job.

It does not even work in developed countries. Take a look at what it did to California. Take a look at all the businesses closing down there, the economic decline and unemployment figure. Minimum wage is a 100% guaranteed recipe for a disastrous economy.

$20 is rather high even for Cali. Most set it ridiculously low so it matches what's already paid.

The problem is that states like Alaska, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Massachusetts. Missouri and more are currently following in California's footsteps. They are allowing illiterate voters dictate the outcome in an attempt to collapse their economies to ensure there is chaos that will keep them in power. Unfortunately, as can be seen in the new generation, Democracy may actually not be a good thing. California is on the brink of collapse. It's governor cannot even be used in a presidential race. So, yeah, California is a Bell-Weather state that shows the future America. America is a dangerous country going the route of Zimbabwe, South Africa, and the likes. You cannot invest there or do business. You will lose everything you own.
