New round of phones will start to surface around April/May next year.

What phone do you currently have?

The Note 3 is due for release in October. The Xperia Z is great - solidly constructed and water resistant. The S4 is the flagship of all devices at the moment, but you might want to look at the HTC One as well.

Yeah, the only real options are the Xperia Z and HTC One currently.

I have the Z so you ask me anything you want to know.

I find its the most durable phone I've ever had.

IMO the Xperia Z, the S4 and the HTC One are all great devices that will not dissapoint....its all down to personal preferences since each of these devices has something different to offer in terms of UI, design, hardware and software features. I prefer the Z but thats because I have one, great device.

Since you mentioned the Note 2, if you are looking for a phablet then the Xperia Z ultra (read somewhere vodacom will have it September) and the Note 3 (released October) are your options. I would obviously choose the Z ultra if I had to choose one :D

Lol goodluck, its a tough choice!!!

Very good advice from genetic. S4 is the top phone, HTC 1 is also great phone but service and backup not as good as Samsung. If you want extra large screen wait for the Note 3. Iphone 5 also excellent phone but if you are a heavy user you will have a poor battery life.

MTN doesn't offer HTC One currently (and it doesn't look like they will). I also fell in love with the Z when I first saw it. I like it's square form as compared to the round shape of the S4. I think besides the looks the S4 pretty much beats up every other device. I have an iPad so I want to avoid an iPhone because I don't want to be bored by the same interface on two devices. For showing off as well, I think it's nice to tell people you have an S4.

Also, I'm not 100% sure, but a couple of guys told me that Samsung provides you with two no-questions-asked repairs on any sort of damage/flaw. That's a major game-changer.

Yep I read that article too, wish my S3 had that option. I tripped and it flew out my top pocket and unfortunately it was in the road so it got beaten up pretty badly. Has cracks in all 4 corners yet it still works perfectly.

Check some youtube vids on the Nokia Lumia 1020... Damn nice phone if you planning on taking lots of photos.

Or you could get a phon that doesn't need it. I've dropped my Z multiple times on tiles and you wouldn't be able to tell.

The water proofing also works as shock absorption.

My phone has received constant updates since I got it. Think I'm on 3 so far. Currently on 4.2.2. Sony has said 4.3 will be coming to the Z as well.

Nope. There is probably a 90% chance that the person you're showing off to, has an S4 as well.

Hey, that is true. Compelling argument for Xperia Z. I would have liked to experience Windows 8 on a phone but there's no Lumia in that range. 920 is way behind based on specs. It's a shame. I saw the 1020 but besides the exceptional camera, it's an average phone.

Nice. But why is the S4 not an option? It's by far the best phone I've ever had, so much so I'm getting another one today for my wife.

Battery is massive, screen is stunning, expandable storage, breakage warranty, absolutely love it. And I'd recommend it to anyone.

Another question, I've never used Android but what's Google Play like? Is it limited like the App Store in SA? Cause the App Store in SA doesn't have half the stuff of the US store. Books, audiobooks, games and some of the best apps are missing. Before I got my iPad, everybody said must get iOS because of the gajillion apps available for it but that's not the case for us here in SA.

It's got awesome specs and all, but not a fan of the build quality. Too plasticky. Same reason my one friend got the HTC One.

That's besides the fact it's as common as blackberries these days.
