What South Africans must do if they have symptoms of the coronavirus

South Africans with coronavirus symptoms can be tested for COVID-19 if they meet the criteria outlined by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD).

However, those with no symptoms who are concerned about whether they have the virus should not try to be tested, as they will use up valuable resources which could be used to test others.

I feel we are now getting mixed messages.

From the article:
"MEC's Panyaza Lesufi and Faith Mazibuko embarked on an awareness campaign in Tembisa on Wednesday to encourage residents to test for Covid-19. The initiative saw a mobile testing unit set up outside Phumlani Mall for screening and testing. "

and

When News24 visited the mall, many people were seen queuing outside the mall, ready to visit shops selling essential items, and ignoring pleas by government officials to get tested.

The initiative was launched by MECs Panyaza Lesufi and Faith Mazibuko to encourage people to test for the coronavirus.

They gotta sweeten that deal a bit you know like they do during their election campaigns, get tested and we will give you a free t shirt or a streetwise one maybe even a packet of smokes or a six pack of beers.

With flu and cold season coming up, EVERYONE who has a cough or some subjective fever or a sore throat will need a test. It's gonna be tens of thousands at least.

What to do whether you have symptoms...or not? Do not have lunch or "dinner per se" at a friend's house. Or if you do, just apologise.
On a serious note, this is serious business people. We see it here and around the world. Stay safe.

Most members of the family now have a dry cough, feeling tired, some with sneezes, sore throats etc - but no fever so no, not going to go spend around 1k a person to test, especially because business is closed and no money coming in.
