1.
i am currently using Afrihost uncapped premium 4mbps
when i try to download games from like steam or other files, i usually get 400~480kb/s. Is this normal?
If it was ADSL, i would be fine but will it maintain similar download speed for fibre as well?

2. Currently i am living with 4 people (including myself) of family. i am the only one who games, and other members usually just watch youtube with their phone with wifi. usually i don't have issues with it, but when 2 or 3 people starting to watch youtube, then i get some ping raise or lag on my game. And my download speed also decrease dramatically from 400~480kb/s to about 100~200kb/s. Would changing my internet to 10mbps help with these issues? and if i get 10mpbs, what is the download speed that i can expect?

1. Yes, this is the expected FULL speed for a 4meg line..

2. Yes, you will see an improvement.. You can expect 1 Megabytes per second download speed..

However, I have a 10meg line and with myself gaming and 3 other people using the internet, I still see increased latency in game..

If you can safely afford an upgrade, I would say look at a 20meg line, which should be sufficient for your household.. If your router supports it, limit the bandwidth to each connected device to a reasonable speed as well, to ensure no single person can hog the whole line..

We're not with Afrihost but fibre doubled our existing Telkom adsl speed 'up to' 4mbps immediately on connection & upload increased X6 . You should get at least 95% of the 'up to' speed on fibre.

We upgraded to 10mbps as soon as fibre was installed as the contracts were being changed anyway.

Hi,

I went from 4mb dsl to 10mb fibre. Worked wonders... also a family of 4. Then I had some issues while doing iOS app updates as well as google photo syncing. It wasn’t bad, but it did cause some issues while trying to stream at the same time.
I’d say after 4-6mths of this and much deliberation, up’ed the line to 100/25 (octotel/rsaweb) and never looked back.
I’d say start with 10 and because it’s fibre the latency is awesome. Then up the speed as you need more. Also take note that when you go faster eg. 100mb as I am now. You need to have decent WiFi hardware to get the full benefit too.

"What speed...."

Easy.... the fastest you can afford . The choice between capped and uncapped will depend on the family usage
