What steering wheel?

I ordered Grid and figured it would probably be a lot more fun with a steering wheel. What steering wheels can you recommend? Not looking to break the bank. R500 or there abouts. I was looking at the Logitech Formula Vibration Feedback Wheel - about R500. Anyone got this wheel? Any good?

Good for you. No car game should be played without a steering wheel, but be careful, once you have used a steering wheel you cant go without it :)

Taking Grid in to account and all other racing games the best setup would be Logitech G25. But at a not so nice price.

I have a Logitech Momo racing steering wheel and would recommend it if your budget could strech to about R1000. It's the second best Logitech wheel but what makes it awsome is the steering wheel design. Paddle shifters, plus a sequential shifter and 6 programmable buttons.

The lower priced wheels are ok but they feel very cheap and artificial and not to mention the stupid gamepad buttons they put on it. To appreciate a game like Grid and get a good simulater feel you need a wheel with the squential shifter.

Maybe try and find computer shops that have some of the wheels on display and get a feel for it.

Thanks for the feedback. Which model do you have? I am all for waiting and putting in a bit more bux to get a better product.

There's a G25 in Classifieds going for R2k. Otherwise look at the Logitech Momo or Logitech DFP . Don't bother with the rest. Personally (still) happy with my DFP

I have a Logitech Momo racing steering

I agree with Luke7777, dont bother with the rest and rather save for a Logitech Momo or Driving Force Pro.

Here is just a little something if you thought the Logitech G25 was great... http://www.frex.com/gp/

Logitech momo is pretty good I also got one just for grid it works well. The only cr@p thing about it is all the cables.:(
But otherwise it's very nice. If you don't want to spend that much on a wheel go for any other logitech wheel they are the best.

360 Controller for PC? I cant see how this would be enjoyable for anything but maybe 3rd person games.

I must say I am really sucking the big one in Grid - I crash and spin out constantly, would a steering wheel make it more manageable to play? More enjoyable? I am just worried it won’t be that great using a steering wheel. All I do know is using the keyboard sucks.

360 controller works with almost all games perfectly on the pc, even some fps (yes i'v said it) It's a helluva lot better IMO then trying to play some games with a Keyboard ! and it's wireless so less clutter (u can put the wireless transmitter anywhere and it still works perfectly)

it used to be around R300 but it's retailing for R500 now @ some stores !
u will also need a xbox wireless reciever which sells for about R250 and some disposable aa batteries or a play & charge kit (which includes a battery) that goes for about +-R170

the wired controller is alot cheaper ! thats ur best bet (if u can still find one)

I actually agree with you here - my GF bought a wheel a couple of months ago for her brothers laaitie - I played with it once an it pretty much sucked :(
seems so good, but so dissapointing... maybe i just didn't get used to it or something...? gonna wipe the dust off and borrow it soon, for the same reason as you, Grid.

But, dunno if it's gonna work out - might suck AGAIN - I wanna get the XBox wireless controller too, or even better - a Chillstream!

If you going for anything less than a G25 etc, you' are basically getting a analogue joystick dressed like a steering wheel. Don't believe me? Check the Game Controller window in your Control Panel, the movement mimics a joystick exactly.

Yes, G25 is the best, but you'll get as much joy out of a Momo or DFP as well
