Thanks

it's a full physical so i would imagine that would include monitoring your cholestrol since that would inevitably cause heart problems later on.

Generally, yes.

Also blood pressure, sugar, height, weight, medical history, and if you claim not to smoke, a test to make sure you don't have any nicotine in your system. And probably some other blood tests too, I forget which ones exactly, though. Oh, and AIDS.

Our company has put us all on life assurance for some reason.. A nurse came in yesterday to draw blood from us all... They probably would test cholestrol together with CathJs examples..

What kind of life insurance do you guys have?

All I had to do is go for a blood test. Even then they're not allowed to penalize me on AIDS if I was positive....

When I amended my policy 2 years ago I had to go for another blood test. That's it. No poking/prodding/medical history and crap like that...

I may be getting a bit mixed up with pure life insurance vs disability cover - mine are combined, so I'm not sure which tests you'd have to do if you just wanted life cover with no disability or dread disease cover.

I have life insurance with SANLAM Cobalt and they asked the normal blood tests as per the above posts.

Also had to see the GP for him to take my blood pressure and fill out a questionnaire.

Furthermore, it depends on what info you give them in your questionnaire - e.g. -
I declared that I used Prozac before, so they gave me an addtional psychological questionnaire.
I also declared that a previous GP picked up a heart murmur years ago, so I had to do an ECG.

It depends on the amount of cover. HIV is usually the minimum test. After that the more cover you need (i.e. the more at risk or exposed the insurance company is to paying out a big sum) the more thorough they are in their assessment of your risk. So the more cover you ask for the more tests they ask for. Plus what Blu said above - previous conditions or history or family history sometimes too.

This usually does not apply to corporate cover where your company has a group policy. The risk is spread and averaged over all employees so there are usually fewer tests required for more cover.

I'm covered for death, disability and something else can't remember

The minute someone tells me they want to slip their finger up my ass to check for my life insurance they can go **** 'emselves
