Just as I was planning to cancel my ADSL this started to happen.

It's just not reliable enough. Not if you want to use it for business purposes.

And I am using 3G wireless until such time I can get ADSL. Will NOT get it through Telscum. Holding thumbs for NEOTEL to save us. :D

I live in Simons Town and I have Edge here but sooo slow that even some pages on this site won't open. When I drive 5km to Fishoek where there is GPRS only, I get much better results (same laptop and modem) The 1'st week of every month I get NO signal for +- 4 days and this has been consistant for the past 5 months.
Download speed was about 20 kbps when we first got Edge, but is now between 0 and 9kbps. Very erratic. Netmeter looks like thin bargraphs instead of solid blocks as is used to.

Actually Fish Hoek has 3G/HSDPA - been using it for a while now with E220 modem - havent logged on with MTN for last few days tho as my 2GB are nearly gone !!! I think I last logged in on Saturday with no problems.

No issues here still, am able to connect to HSDPA without hassles. It seems like only some areas are affected, it could be the 'bad' switches that are causing problems. Northcliff.

Fastlink e220 External antenna option

MTN? Service? Signal? Support? Non existing!

I am one of the lucky people living in rural KZN with its beautiful landscape and poor reception. A small town called Creighton.

I have 2 VC contract and added 2 MTN contracts due to better reception from MTN. 1 for phones as our lanline provider leaves you stranded for months on end without any landlines, and a 2nd for internet services.

I am using the E220 Fastlink "ironic" for my data connection.

We are supposedly have no EDGE and rely only on GPRS according to the 1555 helpdesk. (still faster than our lanline connections of 38kpbs.)

My problem is that I do have EDGE from time to time although MTN insists that this is impossible as we only have GPRS Coverage in this area.

The Signal also drops all the time and even after logging 3 official calls with 1555 they insist there is no signal problem in the area.

Being from an IT firm I beg to differ as I have done multiple installations in the area and are having lots of bad feedback from my clients regarding signal.

MTN signal is deteriorating and MTN is in denial!

I have recently spoken to another gent claiming I can get a external antenna for this Fastlink E220 that just clips on to the device.

Is this at all possible? If so does anyone know where I can obtain it.

I just don't want to be kept in the dark....

MTN claims that it only started on the 31st... it didnt'.... it's from at least 4 days before that!

Can we at least know what it is thats happening?
or will mtn look bad?

I am sending this post from Fish Hoek Beach Rd.and my v360 is on GPRS and is obviously working. In Simons Town I get EDGE and log onto the server and thats it. All I get is "Page cannot be displayed" when trying to open Google.co.za.

The whole point is... it's erratic mine seems fine now today after having used my Virgin sim card for 3 days and not using my MTN simcard.

I lost quite a bit of business... and mtn won't even say what's wrong
