What the hell is happening to water in Johannesburg?

Yep, no water for 3 days besides the occasional dribble. Very much enjoying it.

High demand? Rand water said something like 40% is lost through leaks.

Any details on the water outage that has paralyzed Douglasdale/4ways?

Has the ANC finally stolen all the water as well?

Super frustrating. I need to do washing, dishes and take a shower. Plus when it came back for a few hours on Friday it was murky.

Here in JHB South, we get literal water shedding. They turn the water off at 9pm and then back on at 4am.

We've been getting something like this in Sandton CBD too.

It's been on since yesterday morning though, but let's see what happens from tomorrow.

They can't cope with the demand, so they've been turning us off.

Ready to move back to the States?

We have had roughly two weeks of no water this year.

The useless, corrupt racist ANC are doing to water supply what they've done to Electricity and everything else.

Whilst MyBB'ers are cheerleaders for PV back up systems, they need to start becoming water back up cheerleaders too.

In the next post I'll give my suggestions....

its actually getting ridiculous, First it was electricity, now water , next it will be petrol and basic goods.
at what stage does SA become a whole bunch of enclaves of civilization and order surrounded by a Sea of incompetence and despair.

its almost medieval in a way, you build little fortresses of safety surrounded by expanses of lawlessness and chaos.

You need a water back up tank with an on demand pump.

I have a 1000L tank (too small ~ but space there is limited) with change over stop cocks running on a DAB pump.
Every month I rotate the water ~ I use the back up water and then refill the tank.

Ideally go for a 5000L tank.

Then, ideally, if you can, lead a Gutter down pipe with leaf separator into a tank or two and plumb this water into your toilet cisterns(must not mix with the tap water) so you flush captured rain water.
Why we are allowed to flush perfectly good drinking water (well, currently deteriorating drinking water) down the toilet is a mystery to me.

If you have a 5000L back up and don't use it for flushing you can, if careful, last 8 to 12 days without water.

My 1000L tank has an effective 840Land Ive made it through 3 days when we had a 5 day outage. We flushed with pool water.

Without supervision they will stuff everything up.
They are not builders, they are destroyers.

Don’t forget Transnet. I ordered some books that were delivered four weeks late because they were sitting on a ship that could not be offloaded.

There were water outages since 15 years ago in that area. I suspect it has to do with the rapid development around the area but inadequate/shoddy work around the water infrastructure to accommodate.
