What the new Top Gear needs to be a smash hit

While I appreciate the humor, there can be less of the silly stuff and more focus on cars and then proportionally more on cars that the middle class drive. I am frankly bored to death of seeing the same cars, just different model with perceptibly no changes being done every year.

What the new Top Gear needs to be a smash hit

The much anticipated return of Top Gear to the BBC raises a big broadcasting question: is the post-Jeremy Clarkson version doomed to fail or will it help sustain the brand’s success?

Actually if I wanted scripted humour and soap opera style drama I'll watch The Simpsons or Days of Our Lives (oh god, did I just say that?!?).

If I want to know about cars I dig up some Fifth Gear or just hit Chris Harris' youtube channel. There isn't a single thing I liked about the old Top Gear :p

BBC Brit has been shoving the new presenters down our throats like the ANC does with Zuma

"BBC Brit welcomes the new Top Gear presenter: Chris Evans!"

"The ANC accepts Zuma's apology and re-affirms our confidence in him"

Its the same tone, no one really wants them, but they're being forced on us

meh...more excited about the Amazon one. Think they'll get a ton of funding & be up to their usual shenanigans.

I follow all three of them on twitter - and they have been busy...cant wait for it to be released...!!

Said it before, they can't make it a smash hit, its like trying to replace Mick Jagger in The Rolling Stones, Freddie Mercury in Queen, Bruce Dickenson in Iron maiden, Michael Hutchence in INXS etc...WON'T WORK!!!

the same durp-like viewer who made the original a 'thing' .....

People forget the new format that started in 2002 took nearly 2 years to get to the point where people became fans of it. James May only came on after the dropping of Jason Dawe, the latter who focused on finding cars for bargains.

I wonder of the BBC can afford 2 years for the new show to find its feet..especially since it now has to pay 7 presenters (incl Stig)..

But a change of team does not need to be traumatic as the key to intellectual property is who owns it, not who creates it.

Ah the dream of every middling executive. To control a successful IP franchise/brand and profitably ride its husk into the ground over the course of 10 years.

People forgot how crap the Top Gear show was in the last few seasons. The only thing worthwhile was the specials they did, and even they were getting too predictable at the end.

5th Gear

I'm watching the new Top Gear at the moment, it's way behind the Clarkson version. It feels and sounds ridiculously scripted, and Matt leBlanc's voice is a serious monotone, it sounds like he's reading the script as they film. There's no dynamic between Chris and Matt.

I'll watch the show in future if nothing else is on, but I don't think its worth the hard drive space recording it. A pitty actually :(

How bad is it? Would you compare it to tg first seasons?
As others pointed out, tg was rubbish initially, but got better,
Thanks to Andy wilman,

You think if Wilman had stayed on it would be better?
