What to do when Telkom won’t cancel your line

Because that would be too easy. They need to make it as convoluted and onerous as possible in the hopes of sucking a few more months of cash out of you. Maybe they figure you'll give up in disgust and just keep on paying them ad infinitum.

Why cant you just stop paying once the cancellation confirmation is received?
If you intend to cancel you ADSL, first thing you should do is drop you line speed to the lowest speed possible.
At least this process is done telephonically and takes 24h. Removes some of the pain.

@Toxxyc you and I must be the 2 luckiest okes alive.. lets go gamble. :D

I cancelled mine about 2 weeks ago online (scheduled it for 30 days' time to not get penalties) and it was actually done last week already.

I've phoned the call centre a few times to ensure all is cancelled and even they said it"s all done and I'm very lucky.
Is the only way to follow up to call the damn call centre?

So they let you cancel online but to do anything else you still have to call them?

Can't you go to your bank and blacklist Telkom from withdrawing money from your account? It's your bank account.

I did with Telkom at FNB, and it worked, but they charged me. Telkom then started dunning me for debt for the imaginary line, and I've been at it for six repeat six months. When I feel stronger I'll list the events.

My Telkom line was finally cancelled, and the cancellation backdated as well.

Thank ****, at last.

I don't think it is purely unethical. I think it is mostly due to incompetence.

Naturally incompetence plays a significant roll but the number and nature of cancellation issues is massive to use mybb parlance.

They probably have only one single solitary person handling the entire cancellation department.

Can't put too much money in that sector now can we.

Received a threating letter of demand in the mail today. Pay up or else they will hand me over.
Well they can go @#$@##@$#@ themselves. If they did their @#$@#$# work 8 months ago I would not have had an outstanding account for services that I did not make use off.

Does nobody have a proper contact number at Helkom?

Thus far I have tried to cancel as follows:
1. Telkom shop
2. Chatline
3 Useless 10210 hell-line
4. Emails to various channels / some including email addies that are supposed to be for cancelation purposes such as the ones in the MyBB articles
5, Online cancelation - even got a nr for it. But noooo,...it clearly meant zilch to them.
6. Disputing invoices on their online system - they don't even log the disputes and when I next visit the disputes has been removed with no record remaining!!

Just what the phuck do I have to do?!!!! I am really getting worked up and it's not good for my blood pressure. I really can understand how people can go postal. I am close to walking into a Helkom store and going bezerk....

I sent a mail to Telkom in November 2017 to cancel my line as of 1/1/2018 with the the correct forum attached. They are still billing me every month and I have sent four unpaid working days in their branch and HOURS on the phone. I have a case number since August 2018 and operators claiming they will phone me back and that the invoices for this year will be subtracted, YET I still get invoiced every month. I decided to pay the outstanding amount of close to 3k just because I don't want to get blacklisted.

How do I get the money back?

I REALLY REALLY recommend that nobody EVER EVER do business with this excuse for a company that is out to Scam you

TELKOM IS A SCAM

Sitting on a 4 month "in progress" DSL cancellation. You'll soon read about a Telkom store in Centurion being trashed :mad::mad:

Not sure if asked before, but if you cancel, and get confirmation that they received it, could you open a case of fraud against Telkom if they continue to bill you?

No, you just reverse the debit orders until they blacklist you, then you contact MyBB to escalate it and do an article about it or you log disputes with the credit bureaus to reverse it and if they don't you escalate it with the Credit Ombud.

I retired, cancelled 2 numbers >2 years ago, went for a holiday, came back and found they had been debiting me for 3 months. I had phoned both numbers after cancellation and found them "unobtainable". Since then I have been hounded by one credit bureau after another, manned either by mental defectives or computers which don't quite pass the Turing test: I try to explain, there is a pause and then "You owe Telkom Rxxx" -repeated ad inf. And the amount varies. I sent an insured post letter to Telkom HO with copies of documents; no answer, no change. However I advise you as follows: Get their e-mail address, write, state a domicilium citandi et executandi at your attorney and state that any report to a credit bureau will result in an action and a request for punitive costs. After that I don't know; I'll tell you if and when I get finality.

Typical Telkom. Fond memories.

Just so those of you struggling know there's is hope:

I cancelled my ADSL 4 years ago.
Cancelled my Telkom Landline about 1,5 years ago.

Till today I still receive monthly statements from them

Up till June/July 2019 statements showed a credit balance.
I contacted them via their website chat. Asked for a refund and was told that the refund will only happen after my last bill. I explained that the last bill was months ago.

I then threatened that I will start charging them 20% interest monthly, retrospectively from April 2019, if my refund was not processed by 31 July 2019.
1 guess as to when I received the refund

They still send me monthly statements though, Zero balance, but hey, that's their problem.

Telkom and SABC both have Trump's Ha Ha Pastor on retainer in their cancellations Department.
