I'm all for stopping smoking, but honestly this won't stop current smokers. Hopefully maybe make no new ones. It's weird but smoking as a thing has only really been around a 150 years at most, before that no one really smoked and maybe with tighter controls less will in future, so it will be a sort of time bubble where people filled their lungs with poison on purpose.

ANC is cutting its tax income in various ways so they cutting their own throats and down sizing their gravy train.

Less money to steal means wors service delivery and hence the poor suffer worse than others.

People have smoked things for a lot longer than 150 years. As long as we've been cultivating hemp at least.

Is that a new Mr D venture in Pretoria?

Love the logic. Let's make weed legal guys, but yo, you're not allowed to smoke in public anymore.
Bunch of nonsense to say the least.

Yes they have, but the widespread smoking has only been a more recent event, as cigarettes became more popular and around the Crimean war. The 20th century was when it became quite widespread.

Sorry, but that's a very Euro-restricted worldview.
Aztecs and Mayans for example have a much longer history of smoking.

Widespread, notice how I use the word widespread. Using it for religious purposes is very different to having someone puffing in a restaurant, movie theater and and. This only started with the advent of more accessible cigarettes around the 1840s.

in all honesty, it wont make much of a difference, smokers will smoke and will still buy R100 a pack.

This, look at Australia it's 30 dollars a pack and people still buy it.

Why would you want to stop people smoking? I don't smoke personally but a lot of people, including my wife and some family members smoke, so why would anyone try to take away their freedom to have a gwaai? Responsible smoking should be the thing.

***EDIT
Maybe I misunderstood your point...thought you meant everyone should stop?

My wife smokes, I would like her to stop yes, but I would just prefer no new smokers be created that is all. It's disgusting and being smoke free for 6 years has been great.

More to the point, if I Identify as a Shaman, will banning me from smoking indoors be a curtailment of my religious freedoms?

Has that worked on Rastafarians? Also you can smoke in your own home, just not in a public place.

Grats man! My old man stopped smoking as he absolutely loved snorkeling but couldn't hold his breath for more than 30secs. I think education around the effects of smoking is having a massive effect in the world. In the end, people should be free to decide what they do to their bodies.
