What will eventually happen if I don't pay my TV license?

Been there, done that. The "collections" resumed after 6 or 7 months. I used to leave the phone on the table and walk away
Many years ago (and I mean many) I had a valid license but was being hounded like you - I took their letter, my proof of payment, fed through a fax machine and taped the ends together - left it running overnight....

They never bothered me again

Nothing at all

Despite me paying my licence every year since 1976, the SABC 4 years ago decided I had not paid. They phone me at least 4 or 5 times a year. Reciting the current licence receipt does nothing. They are thick as 2 bricks and disorganised

I recognise the number now. I answer the phone and tell them I am the housekeeper, Mr XXX is away in France for 6 months. This works
See my earlier post. When you die, they'll claim your outstanding TV licence fees from your estate. They'll get their money eventually; the TV-licence rules were drafted by the previous establishment, not the current incompetent one.

Yup, but I know it's only a once off fee, a buddy has had a mecer monitor for years and he's also only had like one visit.

Never in my life have I seen some TV license dude coming to my house.
I think what LCBXX means is that even if you die, they will take the money from your estate so you end up paying regardless of what you decide!

They'll claim against your deceased estate.
but isnt that ONLY if you don't have a valid last will and testament!?? ONLY THEN does the government get involved from with your estate? or am I wrong?

So how do I check if I am registered to some body that holds this tv license information?

they can try, how do they not know that i am already dead? or have immigrated
or just a drunk hobo on the streets like @Nick333
I've heard stories about them claiming against deceased estates and brushed it off as scare-mongering. My dad-in-law apparently didn't pay his for 16-odd years and literally the first claim submitted against his deceased estate was from the SABCs debt-collecting lawyers; a 5-figure amount as I understand it.

So you reckon I should just ignore all these threats of attorneys etc?!?

I mean, I don't even have a dish or aerial and haven't had one for 8 years. Why the hell should I pay these idiots ANYTHING AT ALL when they can't even run Eskom, SAA, SABC, ANC, the Water Crisis, our police force, our military is useless and the list just goes on and on and on and on and on....

I am so gatvol paying them and paying them and yet you see all these squatters with dishes on their houses and they don't pay a cent for TV licenses!

It's ricidulous!

Just ignore it...they literally cannot do anything to you.

I haven't paid for 7 years. They tried for the last few years and eventually gave up.

Please don't worry about nonsense like this...the fact the no one has ever been convicted of anything or been blacklisted (WTF that even means) for not paying for a TV license says it all.
