If you won the Lotto, how would you use the money?

Would you spend big on lavish cars and holidays?
Would you invest it responsibly to build generational wealth?
Would you help out friends and family? Would you even tell them that you'd won?
Would you keep working?

Tell us your grand plan below.

Wouldn't tell anyone, but there would be clues...

Obviously sort out any debt to get that out of the way.

I would likely still keep working at least until such time as I have a longer term vision.

Immediately hook up a financial advisor and tax ninja to figure out how I can move what where most effectively and start offshoring a lot of it.

In the same breath I wouldn’t give lump sums away to people. I would setup annuity type accounts for a few people to pay them monthly in perpetuity. Especially someone like my domestic it would be life changing, but also giving her too much money in one shot would go off the rails entirely.

Then I’d just probably made a few alterations to my house very quickly before starting to plot & plan a new space entirely my own which I can then build in slow time.

If I buy a Lambo it will either be using finance still, or squirrelling money away month by month until I can buy it cash. I’ll do everything in my power not to take out any lump sums and simply continue to operate as if salaried.

Pay off debt, upgrades to current house prior to sale, buying new house … and invest the rest. Maybe some money for a new TV and a car, because I make bad financial decisions and am proud of them.

Same :) told the kids they won't know... but there will be clues.

Just enjoy life. I don't even think I would buy another house.

serious answer though, a very simple 3 step plan:
- never speak about it or tell anyone, EVER
- invest the vast majority of it in ways to ensure I never have to work again nor would my family
- then calculate the exact amount I'll allow myself to just spend and splurge a bit

Assuming we are talking R50m+:

Invest the majority of it (R40m)

With the rest:

Pay off my personal debt.
Help my family out by settling their debt and obligations.
Take R75k-R100k and take my family on a holiday somewhere nice.
Give what's left to deserving charities and live off the interest of the aforementioned R40m.
Continue working as I am now, as I love my job and the people I work with.

Ha ha ha. I’ve already worked out exactly the amounts. 🤣

With R30kk:

Tell my family I won R15kk
Give away R6kk to family
Keep my job, stay in Joburg
R10kk for a golden visa to a country that has healthcare, just in case.
R5kk for an off-grid house, maybe also the five-door Jimny if it fits the budget
Now I'm hedged against ANC
Maybe R200k for some travel
The rest just gets invested.
