lol, no flip or flick phones for me thank you.remember years ago how proud a colleuge was that he had the matrix phone.

he used it for about 3 months' pressed the flick button (or whatever it's called) and the whole bottom piece shot right off the phone.

Flip phones are for movies.

So we can 'see' the oke answering. :p

US TV shows/Movies seem besotted with flip phones- I hardly ever see them anywhere else :erm:

I liked the idea of the flip phone as it protects the screen when not in use. My old Samsung flip phone had zero scratches on it.

I like well-designed flip phones. Had a Nokia 6131... button on the top right opened the phone, combined with flip answer you didn't even have to look at the phone to find the green and red button.

The XT611 looks more like a normal touchscreen with an integrated see-through lid.

+1

Is there any reason the lid is see through? It looks very cheap, like a children's toy phone. If the purpose was to still see caller ID and handy info, why not attach a small LED/LCD on the lid like the older flip phones?

They made a similar phone already, the cover is see through so you can see who is calling, its just like a normal 3.2" phone with a built-on cover.

The specs arent too good though

Really like it!

Still have my original Motorola Razr somewhere in a box.

Got sentimental value? Sweet. I actually forgot...I have had a flip phone...the Motorola V500. I LOVED that phone.

The specs arent too good though

Ja...I think it is a entry level budget phone. Perhaps they wanna see how the desing does. Kind of like a test bed. :)

Looooved my old RAZR v3.
Problem is a flip/flick phone should do so for a reason, and I must be honest I don't see the real reason or function of the phone pictured above, so the design doesn't work for me.

Original RAZR's and similar phones reason for flipping, was to make the phone smaller for storage, something the phone above counters by not providing anything extra except for maybe screen protection, Gorilla glass already offers this protection. plus it counters the original need being space/size related.

Flick phone that works for me.
Something that flicks to bring up a full keyboard or as in my Xperia's case game controllers.

Being on Android instead of iOS should tell you I prefer function over form. and I dont like things thats formed for form sake without clear function.

I like flip phones and my 1st flip phone was a Sony Ericsson z600.

I like the large keys and big screens they provide in their smaller, folding format. My last flip phone was (still is) the SE W980i... it too had a form following function ethos.

I agree with Elimentals above... it seems as if that Moto is just attaching a screen protector with no other functionality... I think it would irritate me after a while, that large flappy bit.

i think if the lid had a purpose , it would be awsim!
flip fones might come back into fashion , i had a moto V70 in the day and every awsim moto there after , V3 , V3 DnG , Krazr
till eventually they fell behind and android was introduced :p
now that they also have devices on the android platform , wouldnt mind something with good specs and a fashion statement

Flip phones were awesome because they allowed for both a larger screen and a large comfortable keypad without making the phone completely huge and ungainly. These days however the screen and keypad are the same thing so there's no point to them whatsoever and they've completely lost their place. Unless someone made a qwerty flip-phone that is.

Slide > Flip though. So I'd much rather see them do a qwertly slider similar to the Xperia pro.

Bump.

Hopefully flip phones will make a comeback with better designs than this one.

Trust me, Gorilla Glass is not that strong, it's stronger than most other types.

When you drop your Gorilla Glass phone it's just a bit less likely to crack, trust me, it still can crack. Mine's cracked from one side to the for no apparent reason, I do believe it's the battery swelling that cracked it.

Still, it's no reason to get something like this, I don't like it, maybe they're going for industry grade protection? something that most people wouldn't need.
