I see in Cape Town the city has been installing battery backup for traffic lights at big intersections when there is loadshedding.

I don't understand why South African traffic engineers don't make more use of roundabouts (or traffic circles), especially for larger intersections. Many countries with far denser traffic volumes, like the UK, have massive roundabout intersections and they work very well.

Because that would require redesigning entire intersections which would cost an absolute fortune. I see newer urban developments make use of more traffic circles though.

And also what ToxicBunny said. If SA drivers can't understand how traffic lights work when it literally shines a bright red light in your face to tell you to stop, how are the gonna understand how think for themselves and understand how a traffic circle works?

If people do not know this, their licenses should be taken away immediately because they received their licenses in some obscure ways.

They can take my license as long as I can keep my licence.

Space. You can’t just add them later.

If you are an ANC cadre or a taxi driver than this is possible
Than is used in comparisons as a conjunction (as in "she is younger than I am") and as a preposition ("he is taller than me"). Then indicates time. It is used as an adverb ("I lived in Idaho then"), noun ("we'll have to wait until then"), and adjective ("the then-governor").

I am so happy for you.
Congratulations.

Quite a lot of people just ignore red lights. They do a quick scan to check for traffic, and then go. My much-loved restored beetle got smashed by a **** in a fortuner that decided to skip the light. Good part was I had a dual-dashcam and he had to cough up a lot of money since he was uninsured.

The first mistake you made was assuming that South Africans know how a 4-way stop works.
