Phase 1 - "laying the groundwork". Hahaha. Yes, I will believe it when I see it. I remember back in about 2000 when we were first told the points demerit system was imminent..

It's very simple.
Obey the speed limit
It's not rocket science.
In principle you are correct.
I am however convinced the speed zones are optimized to generate fines.
Especially as you approach a town and the zone changes a few times, 120 then 80, then 60, then 80 etc.
Sometimes you are just not sure of the limit on the piece of road you are on.
I've been fined before for doing 120 on the N1 between Paarl and Worcester, and I apparently missed a temporary board indicating 80 because of workers on the road. It was a Sunday and I saw no sign nor workers.

Basically this, Durban roads are always confusing as heck when it comes to these temporary signs. I mean the one umhlanga off-ramp that has been completed still has the 30 Km/h sign on it and most people are doing 80. Because hell it's not safe to take that at 30.

Tons of other examples are laying around. It's getting caught doing 80 on a road that should be 80, but is now 60 without any warning or lower for some unknown reason.

Went from Glenwood to Westville and only saw a max of 3 speed signs. For a moment do you think they deduct or care about Taxis stopping in the middle of a red to drop somebody off? Big doubt sadly.

I know a person whose license kept just falling off and sat in their bag.

Honestly saw one of these for a motorcycle and cleaver little shits, it just folds away.
Ive seen ones that fold up once you hit a certain speed, the airflow tilts it

Speeding is the easy target, it also takes the target off the back of the Taxis because Govt knows they would protest and burn everything if laws were made to specifically stop their carnage on the roads.

And if they are giving officers the authority to choose points to be removed or not expect bribery to go up 999999%

Haven't read these rules but I'll try any means to skirt them, when in rome with these corrupt arseholes and their blindness to taxis - bribes, fake numberplate with one digit changed, throw some mud on my numberplate, smash it so a digit or two is illegible - then just wait for the day I get pulled over and argue it in court, barely ever see metro pulling over cars anyway. Or just drive without a license and pay the R500. I know someone driving for 12+ years without a license, got caught twice in that time, just begs or pays a bribe, never been charged.

Dear AARTO, could you kindly keep infringements belonging to other people driving vehicles I have NEVER owned off my ID number?
Thank you
