What you should study to become a telecoms CEO

To become the CEO of a large telecommunications company is difficult. It takes many years of hard work, in-depth knowledge of the field, and some good luck.

In most cases, becoming CEO also requires the right qualifications, and two graduate programs stand out among South Africa’s top telecoms executives – BCom and MBA degrees.

While the price of an MBA can be prohibitive – anywhere between R200,000 and R400,000 in South Africa – companies often cover these costs.
Yes and no.. it depends. While many companies offer study programs it is always subject to the course they feel benefit them in your existing team or you were selected/earmarked for leadership role/put into one (pro/reactive, securing your stay for 3-4yrs this way.. free lunch and all of that).

With the MBA cost being so high vs the avg income professional income you kinda have to wonder if perhaps there should be different rates vs corporate and self-funding individuals because if things continue to go on soon MBAs will be worth 1/2 bar. I guess SA has the scarcity model on MBAs done nicely so its value is still present vs e.g. US and EU market.

The writer of this article only looked at the degree and not the content. If he did he should have seen the value of a Actuarial Science degree.
