Hi Guys, I am looking for an external 1tb HDD to backup movies, pics etc. Whats a good brand/model to get? Ive heard that WD Elements isnt too good as per some local reviews so im open to any other brand/model (WD, Seagate, Verbatim, Toshiba, Transcend)

Thanks in advance

I have the WD ultra 3TB (2015 model) very nice and small and no external power source

I would say stay away from WD. They might be cheaper, but very prone to failure at the port on the drive. You also can't take the drive out to put in another enclosure when it fails. Rather get a Seagate backup plus portable, I ran one inside my PS4 till I upgraded to SSHD.

We have hundreds of failed WD Passports here, as well as hundreds of failed Seagate 2.5" externals, and Toshibas, and Hitachis, and Samsungs, etc etc.

I would buy the cheapest one or the one with the best warranty.

I have a 1tb 2.5" toshiba that hasn't given me hassles in years.

This is even after dropping it quite a few times.

Handle the drive correctly, it will lasts longer. If you start moving it around the table while connected, any drive will fail.

+1

Sound advice.

Backup movies, pics ... are you sure 1TB is enough?
