What's it worth... (Uncaped / Unlimited* SAIX DSL)

Hi Guys,

Just THEORETICALLY speaking... Would appreciate some feedback on possible uncapped DSL...

Details:
- Service based on SAIX International Fiber (Diginet Backbone, expanding to ATM depending on usage)
- Uncapped, Unlimited Service with the exception of P2P (sorry, I know...)
- No Daily Threshold crap
- NATed Static IP Addresses, no hosting possible on customer sides
- Free hosting of web + email on domain of your choice, unlimited traffic usage (provided you host legal content)
- Competes directly with IS Uncapped solutions
- Need at least 15 confirms before I will be prepared to launch due to capitcal expenses required to do this...
- Month to Month, no contracts
- Would prefer technical 'able' people to use the service initially, I don't have the time for 24x7 support (at least not now) :D
- Due to the way the solution operates, no duplicate logins can be supported. You only get one session.

Value Added Services:
- Secure MPLS VPNs between 2 or more locations
- Links into WUGs should they be willing and where able
- Real IP Addresses can be made available on request and motivation
- Your router is behind NATed IP, you are COMPLETELY secure against hacks
- 24x7 monitoring of your line and connection
- VoIP Telephone service with competitive rates

Speeds:
- Up to 4MB/Sec (Or max line speed, should Telkom ever offer a service faster than 4MB/Sec) from other users on the same service as well as WUGs
- 1MB Burstable Internet Breakout Service (1:30)
- 512KB Burstable Internet Breakout Service (1:25)
- 384KB Burstable Internet Breakout Service (1:25)
- 128KB Burstable Internet Breakout Service (1:15) - Will be priced for home/personal usage

Please keep in mind I'll be paying about R30K per 1MB/Sec of GIB (Guaranteed International Bandwidth).... Reasonably speaking... What would good prices be for the 1MB, 512KB, 384KB and 128KB solutions?

If I -quickly- do the math, it looks like I can be about R700 or so cheaper than the IS Solutions, with the ability to accomodate much faster speeds between users making use of the service (call it a incentive to get your buddies to sign up).

No special routers and/or equipment will be required on the customer side, any standard DSL Line + Modem will work fine... This is -NOT- a VPN based service, you connect via STANDARD PPPoE just like you connect to normal ADSL. There is NOTHING fancy about the setup, there is NO custom hardware required.

I'm not telling the secret (but it is 1000% above board, and LEGIT, making use of a MPLS Backbone) with traffic on the MPLS Backbone running at about 2c per MB - it's the Internet breakout that is expensive and running up the costs...

Thoughts, comments, and feedback please?

Obviously, depending on cost, I would be very very interested. We have been looking at something like this for a while now. Perhaps partner up?

hehe, topic modified due to interest then :P

My Diginet at home should be installed within approximately 4 weeks (fingers crossed - we're hoping to get it in before Telkom Data closes for the holiday season in December), and I'll do some tests on that. SAIX Guarantees sub 250ms to the UK however, but you need to add overhead from your ADSL Line. The MPLS breakout to your ADSL Line at your house, will be subject to the conditions of the line. If your exchange is busted or slow, your connection to the MPLS Network will be slow as well...

If you get like 10ms to the first hop of a traceroute (i.e. the Telkom DSLAM), add about 20ms or so local destinations, and about 250ms to 300ms for international destinations. As it causes more problems than what it is worth, I don't think I'll consider things like QoS and Traffic shaping...

Things like routesentry for example will also easily be able to work with this solution, where you can only route international traffic through the MPLS for example and keep local on IS/Telkom should you so desire...

Am working on possible figures now, and depending on interest - I -mite- demo this service with no more than three concurrent connections on a 128kb service (40GB/Month limit for the entire network unfortunately, I need to pay for this out of my own pocket)...

PS - Seems I can only modify topic of a post, not the thread... MOD, please change ???

Priliminary prices... They might change in otherwords, but here's an idea what my math is showing me so far...

128KB 1:15 - R447PM
384KB 1:25 - R796PM
512KB 1:25 - R1271PM
1024KB 1:30 - R1959PM
Site to Site MPLS without Internet Breakouts from R500PM upwards depending on usage (2c per MB)

There is still one component missing in the math however, but I'm hopeful that it won't really inflate the prices allot (if at all) as it has been compensated for already, mostly in any case...

Same here - I am just worried about those operating costs you need to keep in the black with regards to speed of new customer sign-ups ;)
