What's the best 4mb ADSL IPS in Cape Town

I live in a area where majority of people are working blue-pink collar jobs(Near Mandalay). There telkom didn't bother investing ADSL lines above 4mbps, heck I wasn't even aware they finally installed them until I checked their coverage hoping for a miracle of uncapped LTE(since I was tired of giving R1600 to MTN monthly for LTE data). So I was tied to applying for a ADSL line rental of 4mbps. So the next step is applying for service itself.

The point of the thread being which IPS would you recommend for ADSL 4mbps in Cape Town uncapped package, unshaped/unthrottled would be a plus since I am a heavy user.

Get the 4Mbps uncapped promo from Telkom.

It's R 599 for uncapped internet + line rental + ADSL line.

Just for landline rental and ADSL line the normal rate is R 500. So the promo is a good deal

Hey wait, can't you get Telkom ADSL data line without having Telkom landline forced in your contract?

No, you can't. The so-called naked ADSL option is not available. You can choose NOT to make any calls .... or install a phone instrument.

The site states a ADSL data line rental of around R250 monthly
R599pm for 4MB uncap special is the best deal for what you want, it's a no-brainer. I pay close to R800pm for the same.
Think I must cancel and apply again

I'm on the R799-all-in-10MB deal from January. I think it petered out mid Feb, so there's hope :)

Well my neighborhood is oblivious to tech and fast non wireless internet so basically I am too lonely to get anything > 4mbps.

To think of it, if a place is limited to 4mbps, is it a matter of hardware(wires) limitation or contractual regulation?

Lots of things.

(1) The exchange serving your area must be enabled for better than basic ADSL ( Adsl2+ or Vdsl)
(2) Your home must be within 4 km of the exchange or less
(3) The line quality has to be very good with a good SNR margin.

BTW, 10ms Latency? Very lucky if you better than about 30-35 ms!

Have you looked up what is available in your area? Then you could also check this out if you know what the exchange prefix is .
https://ssl-1.ipact.telkom-ipnet.co.za/pubcgi/internal/NBView.pl

On this site click on " lookup DSLAM" and in the DN number box enter the area code and the exchange code I the format of "021414".

You will end up with a report on what is available. You could use a neighbors telephone number also.

With a bit of deciphering you will see if what is available is only a DSLM, MSAN, GPON (for fibre) etc.

My 4Mbps deal with 100GB unshaped cap came to R 769. This is an uncapped unshaped deal for R 599. Folks use the landline so the anytime plan is R 70. Still less than what I was paying.

The 4Mb/s Telkom promo deal also applies to fibre, so if you have coverage from openserve(telkom) rather go that route as you can always upgrade to much higher speeds if you want. http://www.openserve.co.za/open/fibre/

Yes.
