With Samsung getting so expensive and not changing much it's worth having a look at alternatives so my question is simple what is the best alternative to Samsung should I decide to switch?

Both midrange and high end phones can we mentioned

Voted Oppo but all phones are more expensive due to the ANC, Trump etc. My budget Honor also lasted many years so a great option as well.

Yeah phones are stupidly priced. Better just take the plunge and get an iPhone or a high end Chinese phone. Anything below R8 000 is gonna be slow and below midrange.

i really can't comment much here since i have only used Samsung since last Black Friday and before that Xiaomi for around 10 years or so (Note 4 followed by a Poco F1) so i have no experience whatsoever with any of the other brands so i am totally out of my depth commenting here but some of the Xiaomi models like the Note 14 pro plus 5G seem like attractive in the midrange levels at around the R10k pricerange and i would also suggest that the galaxy S24FE and also the iphone 16e (if you can get either at below the official prices) are also champions in their respective categories, and obviously at that level higher model phones from all of those manufacturers would also suit you ...... that's about all i can suggest since my experience of other brands is very limited to whatever i have played around with using other peoples phones

Did your fingers spasm after you wrote that?

I would have said Xiaomi, but the value gets less and less. Updates mess up the phone, both smoothness and battery usage. Xiaomi apps are generally good (Samsung's are better) but the ads can be infuriating. And Xiaomi is making it more and more difficult to unlock the bootloader to install a custom ROM.

Another vote for Nothing, they appear to be the dog bollocks & actually listen to customer feedback, big on community etc.

Gives off early days OnePlus vibes, no surprise why.

who really gives a rats ar5e about most of that **** - sorry that it offends your sensibilities so much (though maybe i don't really give actually give a schit anyway) but it really should not be making your ar5e itch as much as it does, because as soon as you see a lack of punctuation you are free to basically fark off and not read the rest of the post and move on to the next one in the thread ..... end of story

Back on topic:

The poll options are too limited.

Having said that this is SA so it's Samsung or Apple country, for 90% of the time for 90% of the people.

used Samsung flagship would be my vote
The battery would be a problem or become irritating after a couple of years. Where does one go to get it replaced with something reliable? I replaced my old Samsung S7 battery about 4-5 years ago at WeFix Canal Walk and what they put in was rubbish, it wasn't long before it became obvious that it wasn't holding a charge very well. It was a spare phone so I only realised this months down the line so it was too late to go and complain.
