The Strikers were released in 2010 around the Soccer World Cup, yes...I suppose the World Cup was the inspiration for the "striker" theme.
The Striker "package" is really not that much of a package though...the main idea is just to distinguish it from the other models, because they took the base, LX and EX versions away and replaced it with a single model to run out the time until the next generation was launched.
It is basically just two soccer badges put on the front doors (see rodga's pic at bottom of page 1), as well as a badge that says "striker" which was put just below the "picanto" badge on the boot. When I bought my Striker, all these badges were not even on the car, they gave it to me loose inside the user manual bag - so I had the option to put them on or not. It seems most buyers decided not to put them on.
As for why the Atos is selling for much cheaper than the Picanto - who knows...one reason could be that some Atos models had a less powerful engine than the Picanto - it was the same Hyundai Epsilon engine but it produced something like 43kW in the Atos, and 49kW in the Picanto. I am speaking under correction but the Atos Prime model upped the power to 49kW as well.
A lot of Picantos were sold in SA, so I guess it is also a matter of demand and perception, maybe buyers like the Picanto more?
