got a little upgrade gift for xmass ..... have been wondering about the speeds coming from a 7.2mbps old 8ta modem

depending on load on the towers of course ... but its between 1000kBps and the screenshot below

constant -58DB to maxed -66DB rainy weather in glenwood durban.

http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4024991843

should i be :D ? or :wtf::confused:

ive checked other speed tests on YT in other countries with 21mbps and looks like I should be grateful ?

is this the correct speed i should be getting or should it be around the 2000kBps mark ? perhaps just network load which is out of my control ? the -DB is near perfect ? or can it be better ?

Modem is plugged into pc usb3 port under my desk or on my old hg532c router on my desk depends if i need to use the usb port on the pc or not.

If you have LTE coverage in your area you could get much higher speeds. The LTE bands are not as congested as the 3G bands at the moment and LTE is capable of much higher max speeds (see thread). Take a look at this thread .

I got the Huawei B593 router and getting 20-30Mbps speedtests & downloads averagely running at 2MB/s, and this is so far without an external antenna, just using the router's internal ones

so if your downloads are averaging 2m then i guess ill wait for lte to become cheaper ! the modems price did drop nicely i see but since the 21mbps modem is giving around 1 / 1.3 it doesnt really warrant the upgrade price. do you do one download at a time or several at 2mB? otherwise then it does warrant the price for upgrade :D

yes LTE shows on the map , pretty sure it will also run near perfect which should give some interesting results. at the moment speedtest shows its faster than 92% of SA hahahaha

On LTE my connection is averagely on the low end if you consider the speed leaderboard thread i linked above, i'm around number 24/30 at the moment with those speeds. Just remember there is also a chance of improving on those speeds if i add external antennas.

Another factor is that LTE latencies are lower than 3g but that counts if you do latency sensitive tasks like gaming (i do :) ). Coming from being a 3g user for the last 3years i must say upgrading to LTE was well worth it (upgraded late late 2014), only cost was that R1.5k deal for the router and now my internet experience has greatly improved :)
