WhatsApp may face regulation in South Africa

I'm sorry but I dont agree with this at all.

Please explain to me what content do the Telcos' is SA provide? Nothing! A few crappy apps and games, thats it.

So what drives the demand for data in SA? OTT. Be it Streaming, Social Media, P2P, whatever.

Without innovative OTT players in SA, our Telcos' would have no customers.

Here's to moving backwards while the rest of the world moves forward....

So disappointing :(

so Vodascum cries and hearings get scheduled to pander to them ....... carry on SA, get more into the pit of shyte.

Yet Telkom is happy to give un-metered Whatspp & social media bandwidth :erm:

this could have far reaching consequences...

Yip. It will be interesting to see what happens and the arguments made. WhatsApp being a commercial entity of Facebook might be willing to concede ... but Telegram will not. But does not look like the operators are bothered by Telegram. :)

Just connect via a wifi connection!

Vodacom & MTN must fall!!!!!!! trying to squeeze us, out of more monies!

If this ever comes to pass, I will making damn sure that every person I know knows that Vodacom instigated this and and will try my utmost to convince them to move.

Exactly. People don't use Whatsapp because it's Whatsapp, they use it because it's cheap and hassle-free. If it becomes full of hassles and not cheap, then they will use something else that is.

I dunno if these operators are retarded or not, but I'd seriously be questioning my own business acumen if I were them.

Is Whatsapp regulated in any other countries?
