I'm sorry but I dont agree with this at all.

Please explain to me what content do the Telcos' is SA provide? Nothing! A few crappy apps and games, thats it.

So what drives the demand for data in SA? OTT. Be it Streaming, Social Media, P2P, whatever.

Without innovative OTT players in SA, our Telcos' would have no customers.

this could have far reaching consequences...
Yip. It will be interesting to see what happens and the arguments made. WhatsApp being a commercial entity of Facebook might be willing to concede ... but Telegram will not. But does not look like the operators are bothered by Telegram. :)

PTT (push to talk) may come into play...

Also, if the one (whatsapp) gets regulated, people will move over to the next one (telegram) and so on. Once the cat is out of the bag...

People will just jump ship. There are millions to choose from. I can use a different one every day of the week...

Exactly. People don't use Whatsapp because it's Whatsapp, they use it because it's cheap and hassle-free. If it becomes full of hassles and not cheap, then they will use something else that is.

I dunno if these operators are retarded or not, but I'd seriously be questioning my own business acumen if I were them.

Is Whatsapp regulated in any other countries?

You have no idea what the regulating will entail yet, so it may not be that easy.

Perhaps I should reinstall Telegram and get my friends to use it.

I do not like this. We already pay so much for mobile data :(
