These WhatsApp messages can cost you your job or worse in South Africa

WhatsApp is a valuable tool for business and casual conversations, but individuals must be careful about their activity on the social media platform, as it could land them in trouble with their employer or law enforcement.

According to Nombuso Ndlovu, an industrial relations consultant at Strata-g Labour Solutions, messages that leak confidential information or share explicit content with staff or work WhatsApp groups could get people fired.

Companies are having a hard time in regulating messaging services in the workplace, because there are double standards. On the one hand it is banned on our corporate network and on the other hand you are required to be in 15 groups and chastised if you dare not reply in time or answer a whatsapp call..

They want security and convenience, two things kind of opposing each other

I'm admin on one of the work WhatsApp groups, and if you post your balas, I will not hesitate to delete it immediately, unless it's related to something we're working on.
Under WHAT circumstances would that be related to something you're working on?🤣

Well, for example, if I ask, “What’s the status of Project ABC?”, and someone posts their balas, I would understand it to mean that the project has gone balls up.
But the way other peeps might take it could be wrong

So, looking at the topic heading, I am OK if I use Signal or Telegram?

Whatsapp is considered a social media platform?
