When do you buy a new/another car?

* warrentee/service plan on old car is depleted
* old car is starting to give problems
* maintenance on old car starts getting too expensive
* old car is paid in full
* old car is now too slow
* old car is rattling too much
* old car is not exciting you anymore
* to keep up with the Jones's
* your vehicle needs have changed (ie: need a family vehicle, need a 4x4 for work, etc?)

Will you upgrade your car if it is still going 100% and the body work has some minor bumps and scratches?

Please feel free to add any other reasons I have missed.

* when it's more rust than vehicle
* when it gets stolen
* when it is irreparable

When the following conditions are met:
- Before the maintenance plan expires
- Before 100 000 km
- If I have additional cash to spare

On a side note, I wonder how many people would change their cars as frequently as they do if car allowances were done away with.

I do try and keep my cars for as long as possible.

You will never get the money back you paid for it so Might as well keep it and save for a deposit on the next one. However this is not always the case, sometimes a car will just get to a point where the maintenance on it becomes so high that it's cheaper to just buy a new car all together (This happened to my Polo) I was spending close to R 2000 a month just to keep the thing running.

But appart from that I drive them till there is nothing left and then either give them away (gave a Golf1 to a mate of mine) or strip them for spares and sell the spares :D

When I (a) have the money and (b) am looking for more features. Perfectly happy with what I have at the moment though.
