Even after reducing the rate of ADSL subscription, it is still expensive for many, and i am not confortable with their price yet, does anybody know if they will reduce again?

Aug 07 I would imagine unless Neotel puts pressure on there prices which I doubt. Looks like they reduce (adjust) prices every Aug.

Probably not for a while, if they have it their way.

Reducing prices will just lead to more users (*horror*). They can't keep up with the current demand (50 000 application backlog) and they're not about to hire more staff, so why add to that?

The only prices they reduced last August were for the 'higher' level ADSL speeds (384, 512 & 1mbps). They didn't cut their entry level 192 price at all (they just moved it up to a higher speed by merging it with the 384 category). The minimum cost for someone wanting some sort of ADSL connection hasn't gone down since March 2005...

Telkom releases its interim results next week, if they are going to drop prices then I would guess they would do it before December. Otherwise it would probably be February next year.
But why drop prices when they can't meet existing demand.

They are only allowed to drop/increase prices in their price basket once a year. ADSL subscription falls in this basket so expect it only late next year

Why would they bring down prices, when they can milk the cow for a longer period... and as you see us as the ADSL clients, are in for a big milking

Telkom has got froth on they're mouth....

Why should they drop prices and enpower the majority to valuable information?
Why would they drop prices so that small business has a better chance to succeed?
Why dont they drop prices so that the underprivileged can afford to make a call?

I doubt dropping the price needs ICASA approval to be honest.

Any regulated product requires ICASA approval, even price drops. Supposedly this is to ensure that Telkom plays "fair" and don't undercut everyone in the market due to their dominant position.

Sigh. Wishful thinking, I suppose, but it is a very real possibility.

It actually does.

VC/MTN/CellC also have to beg ICASA on their knees for permission to drop their prices.

I guess it it to prevent operators from killing opposition and then increasing prices even higher than they are at present.

I think Telkom will wait till Neotel launches then match that price + 50% :(

You are 100% correct. Heard it from my father in law who works for Telkom. Another price drop is expected early next year. :D
