Last year with Oppenheimer. The sound was epic. Before that Avatar 2. The 3D was great and can't be replicated at home.

Well, moved overseas in 2021. Since then have gone 3 times, the lack has more to do with nothing really interesting being released.
Of those 3, Dune 2 as IMAX was one of the reasons.

Pre 2021, think 2019 was the last, as had one friend obsessed with doing movies, think averaged 3 time a year or so, had more to do with getting everyone together, eat out, etc., but this is down from like every month pre 2015.

Prices just kept going up, and the quality didn't really match, including feel like stopped being the target demographic for a lot of the movies as they became more and more cookie cutter.

If I go once every 2 years its a lot. Last few times where dissapointing. Mostly go when on holiday and there is something the whole family wants to see.

closest I got in the last 2 years was Gran Turismo, but the wife wasn't keen, and Dune 2, but then the bluray ship sailed on the high seas

EDIT: hang on, took the family to Galileo in Kirstenbosch to watch Sing 2 in the past 2 years, does that count as "cinema" though? you don't really go for the movie as much as the overall experience

Dune 2 was exceptionally amazing in IMAX. Before that, went to TG Maverick and was also quite fun! Sure, it is expensive but for a once in a while event, I would recommend IMAX or Cinema Prestige.
