I've tried to order Alienware from both the US and UK sites (www.alienware.co.za takes you to the UK site), you can't even get through the order forms since they either don't display South Africa in the country lists or don't support our postal codes.

Dell never used to only have products through retailers, maybe phone local Dell sales and ask. You always could buy their stuff online regardless of range, which i'de much rather do. Pity about alienware.

I see Pinnacle is now selling Dell too. I dont like it to be honest, Dell was usually well-priced cause u ordered online. Now that its going through distributors, dealers and retailers you're gonna be paying premium for some oke's new Audi...

[Edit: Before anyone has a kitten, im referring strictly to Dell here, other hardware is often much cheaper when bought through local distros and retailers. ]

Yes, it's on the cards. I was at a Dell convention not too long ago, and I actually held one ( the only one that was /is in the country)

Anyways, more to the point - they are going to be shipped in as 'mainstream' products with a single (maby 2 sets) of default configurations.Meaning you wont be able to really do a custom build like you can atm with the m15x ans m17x ....(but you probably could still do it via us - custom build that is... when it comes available).

Almost 4 years later and I now have the same question.

Looking at replacing my Toshiba 18 inch i7 laptop towards the end of this month. Looking for a high-end laptop and specifically looking at the Alienware 18.

I see there are now a couple of places online where they can be ordered from but was wondering if there are any retailers/dealers in the Cape Town area from whom one can purchase said laptop?

I know plenty people who have purchased from wootware before, including myself. I don't know anyone that's used Laptopdirect.

So if it was me I'd use wootware.
