Where does Nashua Mobile’s shutdown leave Autopage?

The article gives the impression that ultimately there will be only two operators left in the country in the not too distant future. So are Vodacom and MTN squeezing the market so that they alone are left standing? Surely this is extremely unhealthy for the consumer?

I could never understand the need for Nashua or Autopage in the first place. Deal directly has greater merit anyway.

there is more to this....

they are a casualty of the mobile price war.

but they...

have also sold their devision that produces their toners/ink cartridges. (some time ago already)

So over all there are serious financial implications

Went to pay my bill at Berea Nashua the other day... guess what - no Card facilities.

I mean are we not in 2014. I always use cards to pay!

I left Autopage a good few years ago, many years before that I worked in a franchise store.
The problem is that the middleman can only send requests to the network which frustrates customers.
I also loathe Altech so I made sure all of my contracts were moved from them.

My SO had a Vodacon VONtract through these clowns. Non-existent customer service. Billing issues. Debit order issues. She ported to VC and when her contract was due for an "upgrade" she ported to Cell C. Bargain

So I am effected as I have two contracts with Nashua.
I am currently with MTN, but have been thinking of porting.
Can I port to, say Vodacom Pre-paid and retain my mobile number?
I would like to use these pre-aid specials both MTN and Vodacom are offering.

permitting your 24 month contract is finished. Note contract date, not upgrade date... It will be likely. Can the SP, ask them you want to move to prepaid. Once it is prepaid you can port once final contract payment has occured.

The SP model didn't really take off elsewhere in the world so it was always going to be under pressure. The death knell was prepaid, which has progressively eaten into this market, offering a more competitive direct channel
