where is my data going

Have you started with the obvious:

-check automatic updates off
-firewall on
-antivirus? which? updated and recent full scan?

That screenshot is no good.

To troubleshoot this you need something where you can see the application name *and* the data being used by each. Like this: http://mybroadband.co.za/photos/data/500/ComodoActiveConnections.PNG I use comodo firewall for that, but netlimiter or netbalancer (not on x64) would also work.

Also, your screenshot doesn't show all processes. See the button in the bottom left of the window "Show process for all users".

Will get comando from work tomorrow and install it and see if that helps.... thanks and then I will paste a screen shot of what is happening and see what comes from that.... it is the weirdest issue ever since it is a new laptop from Vodacom

Well, how much usage is going out? Apart from your usual browsing habits...

Install NetLimiter on your laptop and then restart the PC. The free versions of NetLimiter should be able to tell you exactly which application is using the Internet. NetLimiter can also distinguish between different network zones: eg. LAN & Internet.

Otherwise, get a decent firewall like Comodo Internet Security, which is free as well.
