Where should I advertise my business web development services?

Hey guys

I was hoping you guys could give me some input on where the best place is to advertise my services.

I specialise in creating web apps with the goal of optimising and digitising workflows in the office environment. Examples of this include: HR management, archived file management, job application portal and management. I've even done some work for a mining company to create a software solution for recording water and electricity readings and generating reports.

I've done quite a lot of work for a local law firm and as such, I've considered advertising in the most popular local law magazine, De Rebus, as law firms seem to have plenty of paper-heavy workflows which benefit greatly from being digitised and automated. My only concern is that I won't recoup the cost of the advert (R15k for half a page and R30k for a full page).

Thanks in advance

A few points regarding a marketing strategy, which may be relevant to your web dev business.

--Print is expensive for what you get, but it does create credibility among your readership. The number of leads from such an advert will be low.

--For lead generation, Google Search remains a great channel. It is cost effective, and you should show a positive ROI if your website is well designed (your landing page and lead generation forms).

--Facebook is also affordable, but you will have to target effectively to ensure you reach the right audience.

--When people want web dev and relates services, they often turn to the Internet. This is where your audience sits, so if you are looking for an immediate ROI, use the net to market.

If you want to spend R30,000 on advertising, I will put R20k into Google Search, and the rest into content marketing (which include Facebook).

Thanks a lot. Yeah, you've convinced me that online is the way to go. I think I'll throw a bit onto AdWords PPC and see what happens.

Is the level of your offering at a zapier level, or more a K2 level? I think your target market will also determine where you advertise. If you want businesses, probably best to start attending meetups in the space of your potential customers and network from there. If you want to spray and pray at the smaller businesses, then sure, go online advertising.

It's closer to the level of K2. So is the only method you suggest going to business meetups? I'll definitely investigate that. Thanks

Not only method, but if you know your target market - you know where to get them. Meetups, conferences etc. at the same though, if the buyer or manager for that company does a google search, your name should be there.
