What Telkom says :
White added that this new billing system would better accommodate the 96% of ADSL subscribers who use on average 1.4 Gigabytes per month.

I bought a Telkom 3 gig account less than a week ago and have used at least 6 gigs. Ive checked there usage tracker everyday and it has showed no usage until today.

ADSL ONLINE TRACKING TOOL
Weekly Graph for 1/11/2005
Downloaded : 0 MB for the week
Uploaded : 0 MB for the week
Total bandwidth used : 0 MB for the week
Total usage for November : 1.0900 GB

Think about it they have two ways of manipulating there stats the.first would be to hardcap there users at 1.4 gigs , in which case they would be inundated with complaints from enraged customers, which would then be on record. Or they could just let there users use as much as they wanted and totally fake there usage tracking stats. Whos going to make an official complaint when there usage exceeds the 3 gig cap ?

Come on guys there are no bandwidth thieves. In fact all you good boys and girls who think that theyre not abusing Telkoms cap , how do you know are you tracking your own usage ?

You cant steal something that some one allows you to use freely.

# When your shared service cap is reached ~ Once your cap threshold has been achieved you may purchase further Gigs of usage in the form of usernames to maintain unrestricted service. Although TelkomInternet currently allows capped users unrestricted access to sites, e-mail and applications, TelkomInternet reserves the right to deny authentication to any ADSL users dependent on network usage over and above the prescribed cap.

Telkom is endorsing exceeding of caps at their discretion, therefore no judge in the world could call going over your cap on a Telkom account theft.
In fact theyve come out and said that they are trying to accomidate high end users.

Age old argument - just because someone left the door opened doesnt mean that they gave you permission to take everything.

Actually Telkom HAS given us premission to take what we want until they decide we've taken enough. Im not posting that quote again scroll up and read it again.

it is not free (free as in freedom not free beer) if there're conditions attached. Of course this means nothing is ever free, but then again you can always say its free as long as..[a condition]. which means everything can be said to be free. Cant have it both way man.

To answer the question precisely .... from the radius accounting logs produced by their ESR access routers.

As with all systems, sometimes the web display application will have a hickup and go out of sync with the raw data in the logs (database). I think this would apply to your experience described above.

and how long does it take for the web display to have a glass of water and cure the hiccough?
