How does Rovos Rail and the Blue Train still run, I’m assuming they use diesel locomotives so cable theft isn’t an issue but is the rail infrastructure still sufficient and safe for them to operate?

I have a cousin that is getting a week long trip to Mauritius for her 21st birthday gift this year from her sister and (super rich) husband.
I have never been more disappointed in my siblings for not being gold-diggers.

The Blue Train uses both diesel and electricity.

I did the Cape Town => Pretoria route on the Blue Train a few years back. It was really great. Highly recommended.

Trans-Siberia was more fun ... still remember making Skype calls to a Pretoria colleague at midnight (5pm SAST) standing outside on a platform in shorts and t-shirt with the temps below zero in the middle of nowhere.

Quite a few resorts had fantastic deals just after the lockdown ended; you could get these R130 000 a night places for R30 000. Which is still expensive but for example the one place could sleep 10, so R3k a person which ain't the worst.
Now I realise this information is absolutely useless now but I fancy myself the king of useless information so there you go.
