Hi everyone.

We need to get a laptop with some higher specs but the budget just won't allow us buying a new one. I have been thinking of getting a refurbished one with a bit of a garamtee just in case we have problems.

Would you guys ever consider getting a refurbished laptop?
Which seller would you suggest us looking at?

Hope someone can point us in the right direction
Thank you

Here's a few Lenovo i5 8th Generation (Windows 11 upgradeable) laptops to consider:

LENOVO X280 I5-8350U

8GB RAM / 256GB SSD / 12.5″ / A GRADE
R8999,00

LENOVO T490 I5-8365U

8GB RAM / 256GB SSD / 14.0″ / A GRADE
R9999,00

LENOVO X390 I5-8365U

16GB RAM / 256SSD / A GRADE
R10199,00

whats wrong with them? brought a few refurbished laptops off them, worked well enough for my needs,
Their aftersales is worse than Evetech. If a company uses Partserve as part of their warranty support I run the opposite way. Maybe I am just lucky with Dell Onsite next day support.

fair enough point, I brough laptops with zero warranty on them,
I like to think I AM the WARRENTY! side hustle baby!

That is okay for a cheap laptop. But I won't risk it with a 30-50K laptop. I've already had to make use of Dell Onsite 3 or 4 times, two which involved swapping out the motherboards. Also if you buy Dell , once your warranty expires, you are on your own, stranded on a lonely island. That reminds me. I need to pay R8000 to renew it for the next two years.

My lappie just looks at me skeef and I tell Dell Pro Support to come sort it out. When it comes to these expensive laptop I like to think that I buy Support and not a Laptop.

yes I do agree if you spending that much on a lappie, but if you buying a Cheapie laptop, I think you could get away with one without,
although If I had to buy a Laptop like you, would also buy something from a retailer, where I can bring it to them and get them to fix it,

onsite support is great, but expensive, considering if you cheap out and buy a retail warranty you get the same level of support.
so if I had to buy from a HP store for instance, I could take it back there and they would fix it.

Takealot. Universe Direct is good but expensive.

Honestly if I were you, I would look 2nd hand for an HP Elitebook 820/40/50 ideally a G5 and newer. To upgrade use Crucial Ram (can buy from Takealot) and Samsung NVME (also from takealot)

You can also buy some Elitebooks on takealot, I think some come with warranties but they are refurb.

If you want more grunt but more heavy get a HP Zbook (most of these come with dedicated graphics meant for cadwork). But Ideally the normal chunkier model. Not the U models.

Thank you guys really appreciate the advice. Will definitely look into these ones.

Get a used Wootbook from Wootware. They are not as expensive and pack a huge value for money compared to the rest of the laptops I had in the past.

Link to the current one I have, with a 3 year warranty. Huge battery as well as nice display and sound. It will last you easily over 5 years.

Thanks Aghori. That wootware laptop would be great but it's about 4k toooo much. It really looks like a descent machine.
Red Viking our budget is max 15k and that's pushing.
Your guys input has been great though, thank you.
