Hi fellow members

I need your input w.r.t. buying a geniune laptop battery. I have a Sony Vaio
PCG-K215M laptop and my current battery is running off mains currently. I need to buy a good genuine battery for my laptop. Where can i buy it locally or internationally for a good price and top notch quality. I have heard of generic, replacement and refurbished batteries, but i think they all are not original and battery life don't last long.

I would appreciate your input on where to buy the "right" battery as i want the maximum use out of it and last a long time.

Thanks you in advance:confused:

For genuine branded batteries, you should contact the agents. You can get a list of agents on their website (http://www.sony.co.za).

With regards to generics or refurbished batteries:
Generics, I don't have much experience with: they seemed fine, never had a problem. Replacing the cells in a battery I've had AMAZING results with. In most cases, replacing the cells resulted in better battery life than when the machine was new! Where are you based?

Hmmm... I only know of places in Gauteng. You could try courier it there. Look up Akita Business Solutions. They do all sorts of ad-hoc electronics work. Including notebook battery repacking. If you can't find it, let me know, and I'll dig around for my invoice for the number etc.

sn3rd it will cost me R 547.20 to repack it for me and a new one will cost R1026.

Will the battery have the same effect as the new refurbished one after it has been repacked or is there chances of glitches or problems i will pickup afterwards.

Did you mail Graham?

The times that I've repacked batteries, I've had better performance than when the battery was new. Haven't had any problems as yet. My most recent one is still going 3 years on (with little or no degradation in performance). For information on preserving your battery, have a look at http://www.batteryuniversity.com
Also, Graham gives you a few instructions on preserving the life of your battery and calibrating it, etc.

Anyway, with regards to the company, I can attest that Graham does an excellent job, and I think the work gets a 3-month warranty (if you're not satisfied, he'll reopen the battery and put your old cells back).

What kind of performance are you getting from your current battery?

I stay in Pretoria. He's in Randburg (if you don't know the area, that's bout 45mins drive). Well it all depends, really. You should contact him. If he has the cells, and you arrange it, the process should be quick. Previous experiences: dropped the battery off, 2 hours later, job done. So if you ship it, etc, you could have it delivered in the morning, and have it shipped off back to you late afternoon. The shipping duration depends on the courier. I paid cash, but I don't think he will have a problem accepting EFT

I bought the laptop from a guy for a very good price, but he told me i need to change the battery soon. I only lasts about 20-3-min max.Does that mean that the shorter the battery lasts the lesser the chances for repacking?

Not really. Was just wondering if the notebook is unusable. If it were an old notebook to you, and you used it mainly connected to mains (because you didn't have a use for mobility), it might be an idea to just keep the current battery (save your self a few hundred). As I understand, what makes a battery less-likely to have a successful repack is the age and type of battery. I think he's quite familiar with most well-known brands (he quoted me on a particular Fujitsu Siemens battery off the top of his head and it turned out to be spot on). From the process that he follows in doing the work, I think it mainly depends on how intricate the circuit is inside. I've had a generic-brand notebook battery repacked before, and he couldn't say before he'd seen the battery whether there was a good chance of success or not

There is at least 3 to 4 family members who is going to have their batteries repacked soon, so i can recommend them to him. Will be great for the price though.

Well I have no affilliation with him, and yet I feel this need to promote his business, because he offers a great service at an awesome price. The work he does is good, and he goes out of his way to save you money. I've recommended plenty of my friends to him too.
