Hi guys,

I have been using Pastel for a long time now. I recently downloaded Microsoft Accounting 2009 Professional and have to say it tops Pastel in everything. My oppinion.

Buying this piece of software aint that easy. Apparently only americans and people that reside in the uk can buy it.

There is an option to buy it online, but also here, only a address in the uk, or usa is selectable.
There is no dealer/partner that has this software.

ANybody here that knows how to get hold of the software? ANybody here that stays in the uk or usa, whoms address I could use to purchase it?

Thanks

You could try and contact First Technology, they may be able to get it for you.

Are you VAT registered? If so, MS Accounting would not be a good option, it is quite tricky to get the VAT on your invoices and to calculate how much you need to pay SARS.

MS Accounting is very nice, I used the Express version for a while, but I bought pastel as I do need RSA specifics like VAT.

Also, you do know that you have to manually modify the database to display ZAR?

Thanks, I will try First Tech.

I am not VAT registered, but you can add as many Tax groups into the app.

I would use the express edition - but app there is no way to change the currency in the 2009 version.

Yeah, from what I see, the UK version has all of SA's VAT stuff implemented, and a whole lot more of the EU specific stuff (obviously not applicable here)...

Been using it for a while, and it really is awesome.

I bought it online off the MS UK site. Make sure you get the UK Pro version for full VAT and multi-currency support. Works great. My only irritation is that because it uses SQL Svr you have to migrate the database to say laptop for mobile use when away from office. Would have preferred support for flat file database.

I installed Accounting Express lastnight again and updated the currency to ZAR.

Just do the following...
1. Open Sql Server Management Studio, you can get the express edition free.
2. Connect to the SQLExpress instance or the instance where you installed the database to. The default isntance MS Office Accounting install is MSSMLBIZ or [Computername\MSSMLBIZ].
3. Open you company's database.
4. Under tables, look for the CurrencyTable and open it. (Right click, then click 'Open Table')
5. The first record in the table should be the British Pound table... Update the ISOCode column to ZAR and the Symbol column to R.

That should solve your problem.

Did you change the value in the 2009 Version?
Yip! I first played around with it on my work laptop and i installed the 2009 version on my work laptop. I used my work laptop to get the table names for you. I installed the 2008 version on my home PC lastnight and it worked exactly the same.

Great Stuff. Will try it out.
