Im deciding on getting a new phone, will always be an android user and my current Sony Xperia Z1 is giving me some issue after 2 years now. I came across the Xiaomi Mi 5 on takealot but it's quite pricey, any suggestions where else to check? Or any other Xiaomi model you think would be good but reasonable priced?

Any good suggestions on the versions? I know the Mi series is better than the Redmi

WeChat had a special on the Redmi Note 3 through Incredible. Was around R1900. Which was a great deal. Not sure if it is still on.

The Mi series looks really nice, still pricey and worst doesn't come with a memory card slot :/ and memory is a big issue for me.

I think I'm going to settle on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3

Takealot has it for R3700 currently (it's in gold too which I'm not happy with but hey what can you do :[)

What's your take on that?

Geekbuying has a huge selection as well for around R1200 less than local, even with courier shipping. I am just not keen on the EMS shipping option - I have queried as to why they are not offering DHL or TNT as they have before.

@icbxx It's risky too, if the phone has issues or could be replicas.. You just don't know, rather to find a place that sells it here

I have spend huge amounts with them to date, no problems whatsoever.

You can't express ship li-ion batteries anymore.

They have to go via freight shipping.

I just checked geekbuying it's going for R2400 it's actually on special and has 7 hours left before sale ends. It also offers free shipping.

I have bought stuff from aliexpress etc but never from this place and also I never purchased anything above R500 from Chinese sites.

I'm guessing there are custom fees and a long waiting time for delivery like how aliexpress

7% duties on 115% of the value
14% VAT on 110% value plus duties
Clearance fee of R50

Duties = 0.07(1.15 X purchase price)
VAT = 0.014(duties + (1.1 X purchase price))

Free shipping will be via SAPO, so good luck with that.

Oh yeah SAPO isn't the best way to get it :/

You think our local Chinese malls will have it? Lol worth a shot

I just ordered a 32GB Note 3 for $167 + $2 shipping insurance. Been having some good luck with SAPO as of late when ordering from Aliexpress so lets see how this one pans out. It's a pity about TNT/DHL - I order a Ara X5 TV Box and it arrived within 1.5 weeks using them.

You just ordered it now?? Can you post the aliexpress link you used and you think it won't be a fake? Because I mean it is a Chinese brand.... Your phone should arrive in December then if no delays

Lol what scares me is that there are like 100+ SAPO offices that closed due to some strike . The one in my area is still open though
