Hey guys, we have decided against going for a creeper against the wall and instead planting bamboo all along the wall. Do you know where you can purchase bamboo? fully grown at 2-3m+ would be perfect. Any ideas? I haven't really seen any at nurseries...

Three months ago the only company I could find who had stock was Brightfields Bamboo in Cape Town. I bought their last 3 rolls of 200x200 but they might have received stock since then.

Asking because we're moving soon and wanting to erect a hedge along one of the boundary walls for some privacy.

I've heard bamboo works if you do the necessary prep first, and it grows quite quick in comparison to other hedge options.

Planting bamboo is a life-long commitment to something from which you are unlikely ever to be able to divorce yourself; only murder will succeed. In short (or more to the point "in long"), bamboo grows where it will. Including, if it so chooses, invading across into the other side of the boundary one might wish to mark with it.
Here's one method that can best be put in place, from the start, to prevent the problems of the bamboo taking over the rest of your garden space, and that of the neighbour.

I bet you it grew right back, and the money that guy made on the piece of plastic... profit.

Quite a lot of info on growing bamboo here:

See:
Can I plant my runner in a pot and put the pot in the ground to contain the runner?
No! This is the number one way to have bamboo get out and cause havoc.

but then of course, they're promoting their own bamboo planters, like this:

This is good advice. We encased ours in concrete planters and it still f-ed up the whole place. It's been years now and we can't get rid of it, I've resorted to cutting it down with a brush cutter every now and then. I've run across the area with a tractor and plow in the past, no effect.

When De Beers said diamonds are forever, they did not consider bamboo.
