If you are really wanting someone to back you, then the following needs to happen.

You need to drop the attitude about how great the idea is. Believe in it, but do not be arrogant about it. And accept that it is merely an idea.
Drop the talk of NDA's. It is a concept that is no longer used except for in very specific cases. And that case does not apply to you.
Create a company.
Put your own money and time into it. Hire a developer.
Get the beginning of something going.
Start pitching to VC's for backing.

And hopefully you get backing and can execute on your idea. And make millions of $

See my above post .
I am not arrogant at all , just very sure that it will be very successful in its uptake .

Crowdfunding tends to now work for :

"I have an idea. But I won't tell you what it is until you sign an NDA. But please give me money"

I don`t want money upfront , just someone that i can trust to not run away with the idea and has the skillset to apply the tech behind the app.

As an example of ideas being worthless.
I heard multiple people talking about their great idea for ride hailing apps, long before Uber was started.
Some of them even created the app/company around their idea. Every single one of them has since closed shop, and lost their founders money.

Ideas, regardless of how good, are worthless.
The only thing that is of value is execution

Yeah....it's called starting a company and hiring a developer to work for you. Then your company owns the IP

Well the idea is very simple yet very useful for anyone .
Shouldn't be too hard to develop for most developers .

We talking a couple of days at most if not just a couple of hours .

One of those " I wish I thought of that " things.

Due to the simplicity I will not discuss even small details other than the above .

One last thing :

By the sounds of it, you are not in a position to judge the difficulty of the project or how long it will take.
Your developer, once you hire one, will be in a better position to be able to tell you about that.

... that old chestnut.

I know its probably an inside joke with developers ..."We heard that before"
You need to know that I have been sitting and googling various things around this idea for months .
This isn't a random brainwave that I just came up with .
I am quite aware of the effort it would take to get the app created .
It is not a lot, hence my reluctance to share more information around it .

Anyways , in between all the "You have nothing " etc. comments some pointers have been made that could prove to be useful .
Thanks for those contributions to the discussion .

I also had a great idea for an app once. I really thought it was unique. And then I thought, let's just search for something remotely similar to this in the app store. And voila. An app doing EXACTLY what I had in mind was already out there and quite popular.... and also...FREE.

I have searched and there is no such app at the moment .

I also come from the standpoint that ideas are worth nothing. It;s the execution that counts.

But here is the problem. Loads of patents in the US are just that. Ideas that will never come to fruition because the 'idea' or concept is patented. I find that ridiculous because that stifles innovation. Innovation rarely happens at the idea level. It happens at implementation level. The US patent office / patent system is broken because of this and gets a lot of flak as a result.

I have been working on a couple of concepts. Hell, even implemented them. Only to find that the 'idea' is patented. So what to do? Do I try to licence the 'idea' with the hope of making money.

So by virtue of the fact that an idea is to some extent patentable, it has to have some value?

In which case why not invest some time and money in yourself and take some programming courses?

Because I want it polished and me building it will just hand over the idea for someone else to do it better.

No that is a bad idea. If the OP is not a programmer then the execution will likely fail due to missed window of opportunity, crappy implementation etc. If the OP has the idea I would guess that he has thought about how to monetise it, get traction, ect etc. He should then stick to that and get a proper developer in to do that. A marketing/business/sale type person + good developer combo is usually what you need to make a success of it.

OP you can PM me. Been in the game for a long time and have lots of customers willing to be references. More than happy to sign NDA if you wish. Else, if you want just advice, I could give you my perspectives.

Hate to tell you but there's always going to be someone that can do that no matter which dev you hire.

Hell, I look at code I wrote last year and wonder what I was smoking at the time
