So I'm in the market for a car.

I'm in my mid 20's, no kids and stay about 10km from work. So basically just a car to go around with.

I had a tazz while i was studying and made around with it so fuel consumption is definately one thing I'm not that worried about since the Tazz if HEAVY on fuel. So anything below 10km/1l will be good for me since that is that consumption I got on my tazz.

Im looking for a car which is not boring and has a bit of a kick. So definately not a 1.4....should atleast be a 1.6

My choices are
1. Honda Civic 1.8
2. Toyota Auris 1.6/2.0
3. Ford Focus 1.6/1.8/2.0

Probably late 2000 models or early 2010 models. I prefer the Honda Civic but a 2010 model where the front lights doesn't seem to be one and because there is such little on the road but I would probably have to increase my budget. Looking on autotrader they going for R130 000.

Since this would be my first car since I'm done studying and working the sensible choice would be to go for a NEW Figo or Vivo with the warranty and service plan but those cars just doesn't tickle my fancy.

Would like to hear your thoughts. (And don't say anything about VW because every Tom, Dick & Harry has one)

My first choice would be the Honda.
Second the Focus.

The Auris is just dreary.

Yeah the Honda is definately my first choice as well. Funny thing is I never actually liked the shape but looking at it more it seems more appealing and come's with nice extra's standard. Love the digital dash as well.

Mazda MX5

Haven't thought of this - will have a look at it as well.

Would it be best to purchase it from a dealer or privately? Obviously there are pro's & con's for both but the difference a private seller would sell a car compared to a dealer could be in some cases a 20k difference

If something goes wrong you know where to find the dealer after the sale.

+1 Lancer is an excellent choice and pretty exciting to drive. I bought a car for R100k last week, it had low mileage (60,000km) but the years is what made it affordable, it is 7 years old. If you can try to find a car where the years determine the price, not the mileage.

I do about 7.5l/100km on my tazz. 2002 model (registered 2003). Oh, and it's a 1300 engine. Very strange that you average 10l/100km.

Lol well to get anywhere with a tazz you have to drive it like you stole it. Plus I have big friends so to be able to go around one has to drive with a heavy foot :D

All good cars astroboi89

It just those cars doesn't seem exciting. I'm not keen on getting me a 1.4.

I'm thinking about increasing my budget to +-R130 000.

I'm leaning towards the Honda Civic 1.8 vxi hatchback 2010/2011 Model though. Watching youtube video's of it and doing research on some Honda forums. It seems like a very decent buy with extra gadgets such as park distance control, climate control, power mirrors, cruise control, rain sensor wipers, push start, etc

I'm not going to rush into it though. Would probably purchase the car in the middle of January next year.

Plus I would be looking to hit some long road trips next year as well therefore not looking at a 1.4

Go for the Corsa Sport, can't believe you can pick them up that cheap now. Then again I bought a mint condition Astra recently and it was at a steal of a price.

All 1 Series BM's around 100K are rattling and haven't been looked after. You can feel they are worn out and old, don't even waste your time!
