Generally in the direction of the tower you want to receive from.

Trial and error after that.

O cr@p, u gotta be kidding me.

Hmmmm, is there an app to indicate signal strength like you would get on a DSTV decoder?

And i keep posting in the wrong forum :p

Like Raithlin says - generally speaking in the direction of your preferred base-station, however it might not be as simple as that if there is stuff in the way, so a bit off to the left or right of the base-station might bounce off someone's hot tin roof or something & give you a better quality of signal, basically it is a bit of trial & error...you could also run a continuous ping whilst doing this, however IMO latency has very little to do with signal strength / quality of signal - IMO high latency has more to do with WBS' shaping & contention, i.e. don't look at changes in pings as an iBurst G-spot finder...

Run the UTD on the USB cable, and use the iBurst Drivers. The App that comes with it shows signal strength.

for me the antenna is pointed in the exact opposite direction of the tower i connect to. Just make your connection active, so start a download, and watch the iBurst terminal application then slowly find the best spot, that is the highest signal you can get and the lowest possible frame rate.

LOL So the shack next to you is bouncing the signal, hey? :D

Kidding. Only with wireless would you find yourself in such a situation.

Ok, well guess what i'l be up to tonight, hope the people dont think i'm a burgler roaming around on top of my roof.

But i have a general idea which way to point it. The problem thats coming thru with other people in the area is that it jumps from one tower to the other, as i'm situated basically in the middle, so lets hope that this works.

Once thats done, then its tweaking for best pings on the servers for gaming, fortunately its EQ2, so i doesnt need those really low pings like the 1st FPS's

Like sweet and sour or peri peri.

Server = Windows with WinGate Proxy/Firewall

Ok, i'm connection the UTD to the Server via the UTP connector. All setup nicely, connects when required.

Now i havent done the roof roaming yet, what are the setting i need to make to the TCP setting and so forth to enable better performance.

Oh yes, this cable coming out of the attenna, is mighty short, only 3meter i guess. Any idea where i can get an extension for it?

You dont want to extend the cable because you will get signal loss, rather get your UTD as close to a window/opening and either put the ant outside or stick it to the glass, this is after you find your sweet spot ( sweet spot = trial & error)

Seem to have a sweet spot, but strange thing is if i turn it 180 facing the other way, i get a pretty good signal. Fortunately i know that there isnt aanything in that direction, well i suspect, if the maps at iBurst are anything to go by.

I suspect it would be WAY to much to expect iBurst techi to know in which direction if he comes out here.

The reason i'm asking is, there is a guy in our estate that seems to have his attached to a 2 meter pole on top of his house. I should go and speak to him, maybe he can fix mine too :D

Try experimenting with different positions. like slim said.
If that dont work, try moving the server/client closer to each other

mines the same the arial sits at a 45 degree angle in the exact opposite direction of the tower

Come on .... WHAT are you doing in the UK ?

With your ongoing valuable input I've had to sift through today I'd say you'd make a brilliant communications minister for South Africa.

time for /ignore ... I can only take so much
