Which fibre provider to choose?

Hi experts

Are there any recommendations in choosing a fibre ISP?

My area is about to come online with fibre via Vumatel and I see they have HUNDREDS of packages through various ISPs: https://shop.vumatel.co.za/

Most of them are very impressive and fairly easy to navigate to your preferred options, such as speed and capped/uncapped, price and contract length (will people ever sign a contract while so many month-to-month options are available?)

Other than that, are there any other factors to consider when choosing a fibre ISP?
Are there any exceptional offerings from an ISP?

Thanks
Joe

Cell C personally use them haven't experienced shaping on a heavily used line. The sales agents are also very helpful and manage every part of the setup the only down side is it is 12 months (on month to month) or you pay for the line installation.

I am on the 50/50 package and get 53mbps down and 72mbps up.

I'm not on Vumatel (on TT connect), but I am with Cool Ideas. Their service is absolutely amazing! Constant 20/20 speeds, no shaping/throttling of any sorts (used over 500gb in a month from downloading a bunch of games and updates from Xbox and PSN) and absolutely great customer service!

I'm with Cool Ideas and very happy with the speed and service. Also, my wife plays games on UK servers and is very happy with the latency and general stability of the connection. Not had any shaping or throttling of any kind.

Hi guys, I'm with the same dilemma, which provider to use. I have an option of Afrihost, Cool Ideas, Comtel, Fredd, Home Connect, SA fibre. Apart from Afrihost, I'm not familiar with any of the above. But reading Afrihost FUP, does not make me too happy and don't really want to go with them. Phoned the guys from Cool Ideas and was happy with the service, that I have received over the phone, the gentleman that I spoke to was knowledgeable and with good English. But still not sure about the service and most importantly I-net speeds. I'm watching online live TV and it is crucial for uninterrupted service. Any advice will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'd also say Cool Ideas. Been with them for just under a month, friendly knowledgeable support staff and a perfect connection. This is how the internet was meant to be.

I say if you can get Cool Ideas, stick to them like a tick. I have been using them since December, no issues :)

This is how I've compared a few of the ISP's (non-contract) at 20 mbps... keeping ~200gb usage in mind, and also looking at upgrade options should I go over FUP / get throttled otherwise.

Cybersmart seems to be the safest option for me... saving money while having the option of a 100% line speed account and still pay less.

Cool ideas:
20/20 uncapped: R900
50/5 uncapped: R1000

Axxess:
20/2 uncapped: R778 installation included - probably not an option due to FUP
20/2 premium or 50/5: R1000 installation included

Cybersmart:
20/2 uncapped: R625
20/20 uncapped: R650
20/20 capped (200gb+1000gb): R750
20/2 capped (500gb+2500gb): R800
50/50 uncapped: R850
50/5 capped (200gb+1000gb): R850
50/5 capped (500gb+1000gb): R900

So with Cool Ideas, uncapped means uncapped. you do not get throttled or shaped at all.

Even when you hit 2tb of data, it is still going along as per normal.

Not sure if cybersmart offers the same.

Also, prices depend on the fibre provider as well.

I pay R799 20/20 with Cool Ideas, no shaping or throttling.. stable connection

I was with Afrihost for a bit, downloaded 4TB of data in a month without being shaped or throttled. But I am moving to Crystalweb now for the ping to Europe.

I like Afrihost (use them for mobile data) but they are more expensive than cool ideas. A consolidated offering is preferable but not at a large margin...
