Most stuff = Shoprite, few stuff = Woolworths.

Just no beating Woolworths' 2 for R75 (probably R80 now) bin bag specials.

The thing's retail price is R90. Seller charges you R130, and giving you later R30 back as a loyalty discount, cash back or ebucks, keeping R10 as admin fee...and you're happy.
Bollocks. Checkers is the second cheapest.
Lol 2 items?

Woolies has the friendliest checkout people. Checkers and Pick 'n Pay employees are just plain grumpy and rude.

i did the exact same thing with other basic products that show the opposite.
selective sampling. im clapping for you

Other

For meats, Superspar
For fruit and veg, Evergreens
For general stuff, Checkers or Woolworths

Delivery is definitely 60sixty, best all round

Try to keep a running shopping list and visit these stores "on the way".

Other , no single shop offers best value.

Best value is gained by doing a little homework and spreading the shopping over a number of stores.

Other:

I look at who has the best specials for the week and go there. I have two different shopping centers I go to. One has Pick n` Pay and Woolies and the other has Checkers and Woolies as their main stores.
From house to shopping center they both about the similar distance but if I needed to go from shopping center to shopping center if wouldn't pay me in petrol.

For online shopping. I only deal with companies that offer free delivery. It isn't hard to meet their spend requirements these days.

Food Lovers by a mile
Shoprite / Checkers will be next

Woolworths is the biggest rip-off lately. My guess is the only people that say Woolworths is buying it on a Woolworths account which Food Lovers doesnt offer. Nice thing with Food Lovers, are its pretty direct from the farmer which cuts their prices.

ie Food Lovers Pricing?
R49.99 for 7kg of Potatoes (R160 at WW)
R99.99 per KG of Lamp Braai (R195 at WW)
R59.99 per kg for Chicken breasts (R145 at WW)
R30 for 6 Croissants (R99.99 for 8 at WW)

Perhaps if in CT goes to the Food Lovers Market in Bothasig. Its generally always packed. And when close to expiry, they discount some stuff 30-50%, so great for freezing and using later.

I put Checkers at 2nd, more for labelled goods.

The only thing I would buy from WW.. Roast Chicken, but Pedros has now surpassed them. And their Full Cream Dairy Ice Cream (Cookies and Cream, Mint). Otherwise not much. More like a gift shop for me than a food store.

And yes with Standard Bank Ucount you still get up to 20% back on groceries with Food Lovers as well. But then you get that at Makro, PNP, Shoprite, Checkers, Spar and WW too. And then also R10 per litre on fuel at Caltex.

I think some people are confused about Woolworths. Most of the normal stuff are more or less the same price, some cheaper. some bit more expensive, than other shops.
Where Woolworths get more expensive is the fresh produce.
But.
Go by an apple or tomato from Woolworths for way more than other grocery stores and taste them. It is not that shyte generic stuff the other sell. You can taste the quality and most people will pay extra for that once you tasted it.
Buy a cake or muffin from Woolworths and compare it to one from Spar or Checkers. it is worlds apart.

And no I am not a big Woolworths fan. Things like paying way more for meat I could never taste any difference between Woolworths meat and any other proper quality meat elsewhere.

Lol no it comes from the same farms. Woolies just have more red tape you have to jump through.

Checkers/Food Lovers although Shoprite is cheapest, yet some Shoprites were good, other terrible. Depends on the branch and who manages it. I couldnt find BUTTER at the Durbanville Shoprite. Plenty of Margarine but no butter whatsoever.

Yes Woolworths is cheaper for flour, and occasionally sugar, but that's about where it stops. Look at meat and fresh produce and Food Lovers walks miles around Woolworths.

Checkers has been boosting its quality of items, I have noticed more and more imported from abroad items, mainly the US, and their range "Kitchen" is pretty good.

Pnp has brought out deluxe sauces etc, to compete, but you can barely find anything anymore. So its useless if you liked something, they discontinued it again immediately.
