I've lost 2 siblings and although it is a tough time, I can't say it would be any tougher than losing any other member of my direct family. There is no generic answer to this question. It is either all of the above or dependant on your personal relationship with the deceased.

EDIT: what a morbid thread...

I would think for a parent that losing a child is worse. On the other hand, a spouse as well.

EDIT: I always imagine that there cannot be anything sadder than losing your wife/husband a few weeks after marriage.

Child then spouse.

I know it seems callous to 'prioritise' people like that but a) our children are 'meant' to outlive us & I think almost every parent on earth would trade their life /happiness for that of their childs & b) our husbands/wives are the people we have CHOSEN to spend our lives with. Family is there whether you want them or not, but the act of commiting your life to somebody by choice shows a more unique and personal bond.

I could, of course, be talking straight out of my backside but hey...

Yup - agree with some of the posters here : a parent never expects to attend there own childs funeral. My father passed away 5 years ago and my grandmother (his mom) has slowly but surely lost her mind over the past few years due to it :(

Child...no question. If you haven't had kids you probably won't understand but I think for any parent that must be the ultimate grief.

For me now it would be

Losing a child

Dono back when I was growing up. If my father died mother would have taken care of us and other wya round. If I was to lose one of my kids now I would be broken into a 1 000 000 pieces and don't think I will be able to recover

Obviously depends on the nature of your relationship with them.

I tend to think it is harder to lose the people you CHOSE to be part of your life.

Of course I do not have kids so I am not fully able to judge.

Losing any of your family members is bad. Losing a pet is just as bad!
