Which levels of education in South Africa should be free?

You can select multiple options.

All levels of education should be free, including higher education. We want to create skilled tax payers. As many as possible to grow the middle class. Investing today will pay off in the future as you produce more productive tax paying citizens.

Basic education should be free. Tertiary education should be paid for (be it bursary/ student loan or some other funding for less fortunate people based on merit)

None of this 'fees must fall' BS. If you want a university degree, work for it.

Considering we pay comparable tax rates to European countries that offer it, at a minimum up to matric should be free.
It is technically for most of the population.

Only Primary School & High School (Grades 1 to 12) should be state-funded - all other educational options should be 'Pay As You Go'...
It is, for quite a lot of people. Just it might not be great

I reckon if they made TVET subsidized or free, it would solve a LOT of problems. A relative went to do their trade cert and it was something quite hectic like 40k.

Show us your investments then. Im sure you have proof of all those monthly EFT's to SA universities?

Of the opinion high school needs an overhaul. More practical focus for most. Academics for those with the aptitude, determined by testing on entry.

Instead of having thousands of 'fees must fall' dropouts malingering at the traffic light intersections and off-ramps in the city, or roaming the suburbs looking for houses to rob or cars to steal or hijack, the mothballed military bases all over SA could easily have been repurposed as blue-collar trade schools for all of the thirty-percenter graduates from Grades 8-12, providing them with a usable skill in the job market for semi-skilled recruits (plumbers, artisans, bricklayers, electricians, carpenters, mechanics, etc etc), with guaranteed placement at all municipalities, where they would be able to PROVIDE service delivery to 'our people', instead of the unemployable sheeple just protesting & burning / looting / destroying the infrastructure - and then complaining about the lack thereof afterwards... 🤡 🇿🇦

Grade 1 to 12, and TVET colleges, but I think SA is far from Zim that has people who activly want to educate themselves and become productive citizens.

out people like burning and looting and protesting, and complaining and working simple jobs like being a car guard/cleaner/garden boy.

sad to say this but I dont see South africans interested in developing themselves as much as Zimbos.

I also agree that we should ideally have all levels of education to be free and of high quality. However, the middle class (everyone, including the black elites) will always vote against such measures or push back, if they feel their status (or financial standing) is at risk.

Perhaps we ought to encourage people to think bigger; start the businesses of tomorrow - don't just create newer generations of salary earners, try get people to think creatively and think about innovation.
