iTunes on Windows is terrible but flies on OSX (library 240gb)

It's not the speed of iTunes on Windows that's the problem. It's the entire design - from the small buttons which are difficult to click on, through to the meaningless icons. Let's not even get started on it's outdated syncing mechanism or annoying things like having a pop-up prompt every time you delete a song.

Talking about user interface doesn't matter if it's Windows or macOS.
The whole iTunes experience is better on Mac, it's lightning fast, integrates seamlessly with the Os, more intuitive, it adds up to a significantly better experience, it just works so well. Using it on pc is just about the opposite.

I agree, but it still hasn't got anything to do with the way it looks.

You Need a Budget. Have the desktop app on my pc and then the mobile app on the phone. It has really revolutionized the way I look at my spending and do my budgeting.

Playstation Plus.

PS+ seems like terrible value for money. Some of my friends with PS4s don't even have PS+ anymore and use their PCs for online gaming.

My main concerns with iTunes don't include the sluggish performance. I've used iTunes on a Mac and it's the exact same design minus the Windows UI elements.

I don't have a gaming PC.

Free Games I have played

The TellTale games collection: R1400
Dragon Age Origins: R230
Broforce: R220
Rocket League: R300
Valiant Hearts: R220
Transistor: R280
Infamous First light: R220
Far Cry 3 Blood dragon: R220

That is over R3000 of gaming for R750, and those are just the games I can think of. How that bad value for money?

Not to mention I got the Mass Effect trilogy for R220 when it usually costs R510

PS+ makes sure I always have something to play on either my PS3 or PS4, and if I am lucky, my PSP.

Yeah, not great value if you got those this year. Those games aren't worth close to R3k, or even R750. You could buy them for next to nothing on PC. Rocket League was around R100 in the Steam sale. Blood Dragon around R50. The others also get hefty discounts quite frequently, minus Infamous of course.

A gaming PC (or gaming upgrade for a normal PC) pays for itself quickly if you're an avid gamer.

Maybe I should rephrase this:
I don't want a gaming PC.

I prefer the experiences that gaming on a console provides. Plus I like getting a monthly dose of games that I might not have bought if they were on sale.

Thread revival. Any cool paid services people would like to share?

Updates from me:

1. LastPass Premium (already mentioned here though)

2. The Guardian supporter status. It's $6.99pm and unlocks premium status in the mobile app. You can also pay around R44pm through the Play Store via the app for its premium status, but I like supporting them. This publication has outstanding news coverage imo - far better than any other site I've come across, minus perhaps The Economist (which costs way more). The Android app is phenomenal, with push notifications for (actual, not frivolous) breaking news and updates to ongoing stories that you opt into. You can also set a favourite football team and get push notifications for news that involves it. I can't hype it enough: app is solid, huge number of categories, frequent updates, great opinion pieces, a stack of great podcasts etc. It's become one of my most used apps.

3. Affinity Photo. I bought it slightly discounted for $40 after the public beta. It's so damn good that I've stopped using Photoshop. It's not just 'good enough' as a replacement - I strongly prefer it. The Inpainting alternative to Content Aware Fill is so much better... And it's a once-off purchase with all future updates.

4. Pocket Casts on mobile and web. $9 once-off for the web app and somewhere around R50 I think for the mobile app. Best podcasting service I've ever come across and it keeps podcasts in sync across platforms, including progress per podcast.

5. Feeder.co. The best RSS reader I've encountered, particularly for Chrome. Has a great full screen view where you can browse your feeds on the small left tab and view regular web pages on the right. Has mobile apps with your feeds in sync there. $2pm.

Anything good on the backup side? Photo storage?

But yeah...still Amazon Prime...averaging a package every 3 days so "free" shipping is saving me a ton of money.

iCloud is also pretty handy given the 80 pennies or whatever it is I'm paying for it.

Backblaze, got 6 months for next to nothing on Humble Bundle. For photos I use OneDrive.
