ANC branches have ignored party guidelines by nominating tainted leaders for parliamentary positions, if the ruling party is re-elected in 2009.

Differences about candidates in the Eastern Cape are threatening the unity of Jacob Zuma's camp.

While the "List process guidelines 2008" explicitly states that a criminal record automatically disqualifies a candidate, several branches in the Western Cape have nominated convicted fraudster Tony Yengeni to return to Parliament. One of the branches is Rondebosch.

But Sipho Kroma, the Western Cape provincial secretary, said that all the nominations that didn't meet the party's guidelines would be dealt with through the screening process.

"There is the provincial list committee which deals with issues in the guidelines. We can't expect everybody in the branches to explicitly understand the guidelines, hence we have the structures to screen the nominations. At the end of the day, the final list will be in line with the ANC guidelines," he said.

Wow ! It's not really rocket science !
