Which Phone to Buy?

So I'm thinking of buying one of the two phones below, however I'm a bit undecided as to which one would be the most value for money. Since they're basically priced the same, it all boils down to which would be a more valuable purchase.

I remain neutral when it comes to the whole iOS vs Android debate even though I've only ever used to android. I'm open to changing OSs, just really not sure when it comes to these options.

The A5. 1gig ram in this day and age lol.
All depends on how well optimised the phone's OS and apps are. I've seen many phones with 1GB of RAM that perform very well. Just out of interest sake, how much RAM does your phone have?

What's the battery life like on the iPhone? On paper it looks pretty puny. I have currently have the S4 and barely get 3hrs SoT.

check out the Huawei p9 lite its a pretty incredible phone.

The phone is right up there with the newer phones but missing a few of the flag ship phones qualities. The battery life can last 3 days as long as you aren't playing games on it and its around R300 a month depending on the contract you take. Its also newer then the others so has later technology and I'm a sucker for tech.

Honestly the Android OEMS will hardly release updates for their low to mid range phones if they do it will maybe, be one version higher and that's it. You won't see a three year old phone getting Nougat unless it was popular and XDA has mods for it. But on saying that when iPhone releases "new" updates for it's older model phones most of the time it's just a number change and some security features, the old phones don't get the exact version of iOS as the flagships do.

I would take an iPhone personally - The iPhone has a superior CPU, camera and will receive updates, I prefer the software and it sells well 2nd hand. It does get good battery life too, despite it's small battery to answer your question. (see reviews) The one advantage of the J5 is the display is AMOLED which is slightly better than even the excellent LCD of the iPhone.

If you go into a Telkom shop you can look at the actual phones, although they don't have good contract deals in the shop for some reason!

Isn't a dual core far inferior to a octa core processor? Apple got the dual and Samsung got the octa core

Nope, it's much better to have superior single-threaded performance in general, than to have more cores. And Apple has always been a leader with that.

From an android fan, if those were my options I would likely go for the iPhone.
